Update! • How to make it last! B...
Today we are back to product reviews! Pros, cons, my thoughts, and would I buy it again. Today, we look at the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link, Air Purifier, Heater & Fan. It is a mouthful but offers a lot!
I purchased this fan in December of last year as a Christmas gift for my husband. We both prefer to sleep with a fan on our bedside table blowing right in our face. My apologies to our allergist who would be upset to know that since she recommends against it. My husband's previous fan literally just quit working. It went through a phase of squealing very loudly or taking forever to start spinning.
We frequently deep clean our fans for the hair and dust that builds up as air is being sucked through the back. It wasn't enough. We could never get them fully clean. After doing a lot of research and wanting not only a fan but a purifier we found the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link. It works with Alexa, has an app, heats, cools, and purifies. Our allergist will only recommend a Dyson type fan because it doesn't stir the dust in the room like other fans, or the ceiling fan. I saved up the money and decided to gift it to him for Christmas.
This fan cost $499 from Costco, but was on a fantastic sale with $130 off and free shipping. So in total shipped and taxes, I paid $405 dollars. Then all I could do was hope that it was as good as advertised.
We received it just before Christmas and have used it almost daily since. So we are at 9 months of use and here are the pros, cons, my thoughts, and if I would buy it again.
Pros
It is very easy to clean. I vacuum out the opening and then wipe it down with a disinfectant wipe. This means I can regularly clean the fan which helps it last longer. About once or twice a month, I take the filter out and vacuum the rest of the fan so that it keeps purifying at its best.
Our allergist is willing to recommend it. We both have some crazy allergies and struggle with asthma and other lung issues. We need to be careful with these types of things and the allergist gave us the okay for this device.
It has a great range of speed and settings. You can have speeds from 1-10. Where most fans have only 3 at the most. We frequently leave it on 4 and that is plenty. It oscillates and tilts like a standard table fan. It has a night mode so the light on the fan doesn't illuminate the room. It has a remote control, can heat, is Alexa compatible, and even has its own app for the cell phone.
Cons
It is very tall. While it tilts forward, it doesn't tilt far enough if your bed is low. Only recently, after purchasing adjustable beds that sit very high does my husband feel the fan on his actual face.
It is somewhat large and heavy. For sitting on a table, since it is too short to sit on the floor, it is almost too big for a nightstand. I would like for them to come out with a smaller version that would be more intended for a nightstand or small room.
It is expensive. Yes, it does a lot of different things, but we only use a limited number of those features regularly. Also, while it is wifi enabled and connects to smart devices, there are a limited number of features you can access on mobile.
My thoughts
Overall, I think it is a great concept. Dyson and fan technology have come a long way in just a few years. However, with the bulkiness, overall use, and price point I feel that there is still improvements to be made.
Would I buy it again?
Yes! It is still the best fan we own and I love how easy it is to clean compared to every single other fan in our house.
