There is no being bad at an automation game, that's what makes them so comforting to play !! Play at your own pace and have fun, since most games nowadays are just played out of habit instead of actual love for what we're playing... If you think DSP is too complicated for you to have fun, consider Satisfactory and Factorio, if you haven't already, since those are considerably less overwhelming (mechanics-wise, I should add, because I would argue Satisfactory is a harder game overall). I dropped the Splitters and Thermal Power Plant for my variation, I really don't use a lot of those so I just craft them by hand when I need them. I also like to slap an Electric Motor + Electromagnetic Turbine assembly on the end of the mall, because I never seem to have enough Turbines. I also really love putting Distributors on all the storages on the mall so whenever I land on the planet my Icarus gets automatically restocked. Once I got into the higher-tier buildings, I figured out a nice layout for bolting Mk.II and Mk.III belts, sorters and assemblers onto the side of this mall.

I know you have progressed far beyond this beginner build but for me and all newbies to the Dyson Sphere Program as well as similar games within the genre, it would be nice to see your thought process on how to build these complex ratios to get the desired outputs. Ive been playing this game for maybe 24 hours or so and decided that my mess I created was too horrible to keep on living so I started a new run in hopes of keeping things more efficient. I think mainly I am curious as how you build these chains. It would be pretty easy to figure out how to build say one item in the most efficient way possible, but how do you go about such a chain as this beginner build( or maybe slightly less end products, I know this chain isn't 100% efficient on all parts but it does a great job efficiency nonetheless)

Nice video. Really really good- I have something to add... Parallel to the equator is almost always better, because you don't have to be careful of the shrinking grid causing your buildings to not snap into the proper place. Just like this video showed. Even better if you build much closer to the equator, but that depends on where the copper and iron nodes are... there are some tricks on building were the grid "snaps" though, and if you master them, you'll save space. But that's more advanced and this is a beginner video... so not the right place for it :D About ratios for magnets and electronics. Magnets: I'd have gone with 4 magnets for two magnetic coils instead of 5 though, it's simplier, takes less place, and the efficiency loss is negligible. Starving those magnetic coils for only half a magnet each is not so bad to warrant one extra building and two extra inserters imo. For those who want full 100% efficiency. 12 iron nodes covered by miners, 9 smelters, 4 assemblers, 6 copper nodes covered by miners, 3 smelters for plates. Explanation: One full belt of iron ore (6 items per second) can be smelted into magnets by 9 smelters, which will then output exactly 6 magnets per second, so a full belt in and a full belt out. One assembler MK1 can do 1.5 magnetic coils per second, using 1.5 magnets. That's 4 assemblers for the full belt. So actually, 4/9 ratio instead of 2/5 in the video, which is 4/10... which is not really that much difference, but if one wants to be more efficient, those are the ratios. Copper is consumed at exactly half the speed, so it's 3 copper plates for 4 assemblers The Electronics is pretty much the same, copper plates full belt feeds 8 assemblers, and full belt of iron plates feeds 4 assemblers. That's 6 smelters for the copper and 12 for the iron. This guarantees perfect ratios and perfect efficiency for everything. Generally, in the early game, you need half the copper for everything that needs iron, so build one miner on copper for each two for iron and you're going to be ok.

I run a slightly different jump start. Its less efficient but it expands to nearly everything in early to mid game. I run a line of stone, copper ingots, iron ingots, and magnetic wheels. This gives me room to move an item from one section to another. You can swap the rings for (I forget their name but they are the copper and iron rings). This takes less space, but you will need to trickle things in near the end. Its only my second playthrough though so I am sure it has room to grow.

Nilaus delivers again. Yes, I will have this video up and be moving it around as I work in game. Lot of helpful stuff here for people just learning the game. The one thing I am not sure about is all the open flat space. Cleaning stuff off the map isn't an issue, but finding a space with that much even open ground is another matter. Do you need the tech that allows you to put foundations down? I know that isn't a foundation, but there is fill, etc. Either way, great job and keep them coming.

Certainly appreciate this demonstration. Overall I learned a hell of a lot from this video. However, I could see a first time player losing their minds. Just the clear space alone would drive them nuts. I did hear you say you filled things in and collected materials, I've played for about a week and understand what you did. But I could see a beginner being lost over how to find giant areas of flat space and how the hell does he have the power for 6 iron smelters. Do you have a means to collect soil and flatten out large areas without foundations?
@jerryn2983 жыл бұрын
I agree. Just finding resources that have a decent chance of aligning belts as in this example is a daunting task. Plus, by my count, you need to manually (or mostly manually) craft 6 miners, 20 smelters, 17 assemblers, 16 storage boxes, 125 Mk1 sorters, hundreds of belt segments, and be able to generate something in the area of 18+ Mw of power, I think this setup is best considered for your second and subsequent planets. It is well thought out and designed for efficiency but something less ambitious is needed to automate the basic needs leading up to blue science when starting a new game. I enjoy watching these mechanical marvels because, whether or not you use the entire designs, the videos are very educational.

Thanks for this vid Nilaus. I had to work around some terrain so my Jumpstart base isn't this tidy, but I've got a good base on exploring the rest of the game.

lol ty for this. My base ticks efficiently but it's very disorganized. This gives me a much better idea of how to organize throughput instead of having individual production chains scattered around for everything. If anything this will help me make something that scales easier for the higher research tiers.

FWIW I have built 2 starter bases based on this video from New Start and it took me about 2 hours each time.

Really good little starter Think ill have to try it in my next game as i find myself constantly going back to collect materials to manual make buildings I have factories set up everywhere to make raw materials for everything, but only buildings i automated was belts as thought whole thing would be to much work early game 😅
