Thank you for detail in this video. Yesterday my Dyson V11 wouldn’t work and now works like brand new. Appreciate the great content. I know we need to do a better job of monthly cleaning along with maybe doing this detailed maintenance every couple of months. Lastly, I haven’t changed my filter out in 8 months, so I purchased some to replace every 6 months. Again, thank you!

Thanks for a very informative video! What is the thing you use at the 7th min. for the rubber seal?
@VacuumFacts5 жыл бұрын
The manual describes all the maintenance anyone should ever need to do when used as described in there. Empty the bin, rinse the filter monthly, and detangle the brush bar if needed. That's it. If any of this is in doubt, it can simply be fact-checked by reading the manual; the pdf is available on Dyson's website. Anything else is not only unnecessary and in no way affects performance, but can risk damaging the machine. Never unscrew anything; the internal cyclone discharge chamber is supposed to always have dust in there and it does not impair performance and cannot contribute to bad odours (I've made videos outlining the science of why). Never ever wet anything other than the filter. Seals (e.g. on the bin) should never be wetted or washed as it removes the lubrication; you can always tell when someone has done this and doesn't understand because they then have difficulty opening the bin afterwards, risking further damage from forcing. Never use liquid lubricants; some polishes in fact can dissolve chlorinated rubbers and damage the machine/seals (the manual explains this); powder dust is used in the factory to lubricate. The filter is a lifetime filter and should never need replacing if used as described in the manual. Watch out for scammers peddling a false economy and trying sell you a new one. The Dyson website and YT channels also demonstrate how to wash the filter. You can spray water from the outside and nothing harmful will happen because to the basic physics of dilution processes and particle displacement from complex fibre networks. Dust to the left of the white collar on the main head when the brush bar is removed is expected to be present and does not impair performance or damage the machine in any way; it can be left there (it comes and goes of its own accord).

Some people like to be their own warranty! Like me. Just saying. 😊
@VacuumFacts5 жыл бұрын
@@barryg41 Interesting; many Dyson brand haters, who scrape the barrel for things to criticise, complain about the 'short' length of the warranty. I dread to think how they'd react to someone who suggests they'd wilfully jettison the warranty. That is, except when it's needed (cough...two replacement heads...cough). :) Anyway, each to their own, but many viewers could be misled and think playing with the innards is beneficial rather than the harmful reality. :/ So I just felt duty-bound to provide a friendly counterpoint for people to consider. :)

In having read through ALL of your comments here, do you treat your viewers on YOUR channel like they are, well, dumb? Its just that in conjunction with the obvious self promotion here, your uses of 'DYSON HATERS', 'NEVER','NEVER EVER','CAN'T''DON'T. Well,..... could put people off... Its not an EKG nor an MRI. I will touch on one scenario for you ....since you brought it up, in consideration that the unit in the video, has never been opened before and the seal were already binding during bin opening . Lets pretend they weren't binding, and someone vacuumed up dog crap. According to you… "Never ever wet anything other than the filter. Seals (e.g. on the bin) should never be wetted or washed as it removes the lubrication; you can always tell when someone has done this and doesn't understand because they then have difficulty opening the bin afterwards, risking further damage from forcing. " 'Never ever' is profound when having to was out a bin and pipes full of dog crap, this really could be anything undesirable caught in the bin. You get the point. Your assumption that the rubber seal lubricant was not approved for rubber seals was presumptuous. Lastly on that matter, the machine in question, having never been exposed to water was binding, humid environment, where it is well known, dry lubricants can easily become less effective when doped with other matter in the presence of moisture (like dirt, emptying from the front) I could pick apart the rest of what you had written, but I’m busy, were done.
@VacuumFacts5 жыл бұрын
@@retrotechandelectronics Hi. I think it’s a little unfair to suggest I treat my viewers as though they are dumb. If you’ve genuinely read through ALL the comments on my channel, you’d see that I always treat respectable people with respect and go out of my way to help them. Some people though, make a factual claims which are false, and in that case, I help by pointing them to the evidence explaining why. At this stage, a few get very hostile and nasty, making personal attacks and spouting hostile rants, which is unfortunate. Even then I’m usually tolerant to a degree, but when it’s combined with showing no signs of listening to reason, I make sure they know that behaviour is not tolerated by me. That’s perfectly par for the course on a public forum. The only people who are put off my channel are those who identify with the wrongdoers or whose subjective worldview is at odds with reality and they don’t like hearing it, even if, as is the case for some people, they reluctantly agree. I’m more than willing to engage people in civil debate on matters of fact. RE seals; the manual explicitly states to dry wipe them and not to use polishes etc. In fact, in your video, you nicely show the problem of wetting seals-they become sticky and the bin is really hard to open. That should never happen because it can risk damage when forcing it open. Dry powder is used in the factory to ensure this is avoided. I’ve seen no evidence anywhere under higher humidity of dust getting wet. In fact, you’d have to get near supersaturated conditions to hygroscopically activate these particles, which isn’t a normal environment within the home. And even then, a dry wipe will fix it if even necessary. By the same token, liquids cause gunk in exactly the same way, as dust etc. absorbs it over time, the lubricant can also spread, it costs money, and some products are known chlorinated rubber solvents which can destroy seals. People may not know this. Best is to just dry wipe them and let natural dust be the lubricant. Always happy to see direct, strong, convincing, evidence to the contrary. :) All the best.

It’s better to use baby powder or some of the dust from the cyclone discharge chamber to lubricate the rubber. Using oil will just collect even more dust on rubber parts. If you pay attention to the seals before even using it for the first time you will notice there is already some powder on rubber parts from the factory.

Silicone grease for lubrication & just soapy water to clean. Although Dyson recommend not to clean the gaskets. Fine dust will stop binding.

Very informative & honest video, I much prefer the design of the V8 the way it empties. Hopefully the next Dyson will go back towards that design. They should make them so the cyclone unit can be separated for cleaning as they get disgusting inside which I think is a big flaw considering how much money we all spend to cleanup

Recently when I used the torque head, it sent message "blocked airway". It doesn't happen when I use the soft roller head. I"ve checked everything for any blockage, except opening the torque head for inspection. I'll try tomorrow. I also had the same problem whenever I wash the bin. It would be hard to push down the button to empty the bin. I felt like it would almost break the button. Now I'm contemplating if I should wash it again next time since it's giving me that problem. Thank you for such a great video.

Those rubber seals don't respond well to becoming overly wet. If you do wet them, let the canister remain unattached for a few hours until they have a chance to dry out completely. I found this lessens the excessive friction. Plus, I like to lube everything with "Super Slick Slick Stuff". You can find it at Lowes. Best stuff ever. I was having the same problem you described, but after allowing the drying, and lubing the release mechanism, it glides like a dream.

you mention to wash the filter inside out to avoid debris going in which is logical, but then you use high pressure air to blow debris into the motor ? should have also clean and lubricate the motor since your doing a spring clean on the V11
@PJPEE4 жыл бұрын
The compressed air won't blow any air into the motor, it's a safe procedure. Any motor parts will be greased and completely sealed. The grease is made to last the life of the vacuum without servicing.

I have a tip for everyone. Most of the dirt on filters is from when the motor accidentally gets switched on while emptying the bin. When the bin flap is open air is sucked through the cyclone and it sucks all the loose dust from the cylones straight onto your filter. HOWEVER, this can be prevented by loosening the filter a 1/4 turn, or removing it, before you empty the bin. This disables the motor. Nevertheless, wash the filter once a month.

Talcum powder them since you wiped all that dust which is also lubricant for the seals. Also never wash a heavily dusted filter before actually dusting it with a brush. This will make washing much easier and less mess. Also eliminating the possibility of pushing that shit deep into the filter.

I find this vacuum so counter intuitive engineering wise. There is so much gunk that gets stuck there in that hole inside the metal mesh and you can’t clean it out at all unless you unscrew it. You shouldn’t have to unscrew it and the manuel doesn’t even call for cleaning that part…yet so much gets stuck in there. Very disappointed considering the price of this baby
