I test and replace the power switch (on/off actuator) on our Dyson DC07 vacuum. Be sure to subscribe to Morgan Madness: goo.gl/7CGX0T
After many years of our Dyson DCO7 sitting around the house broken, I finally got around to replacing the power switch and it works great! I should have done it earlier.
Here's the switch that I ordered from Amazon:

Thanks for the video. Two years ago I renovated my over 15 year-old Dyson DC07 with a new clutch, belts, and roller brush, all for just around $90.00. Made it like new. It’s a beast. But suddenly a few nights ago it wouldn’t turn on. I quickly found your video, ordered the switch, received it the next day, popped it in, and bam, the vacuum started right up. Learning from your video that the cover is a problem allowed me to deal with it far more quickly. Thanks again.

@@JonMorganMadness Got the switch (from the link you provided) and just followed your tutorial and now my original Dyson Dc07 is up and running again! Thank you so much! BTW - thank you for showing how "difficult" it was to remove that cover. I did follow your link to the other video and she made it seem as if it'd be easy, however I needed two screw drivers to pry it off.

Hi John, thank you for making this video. I have two of the very same vacuum, Dyson DC07 All Floors. One has been sitting around for a several years because it seemed the electric cord was faulty, and I didn't want to through it out. Now the second one just stopped working. I have no choice but to finally fix them both asap. So, thank you for the link to the part. Maybe I'll order two of these Incase my first vacuum was not a cord issue but just a switch problem. Hopefully, that would fix them both.

Who says you can't polish a turd? The Wife bought a DC07 for $25US and brought it home. It would run if the on/off switch was held, but it would stop as soon as the switch was released. Using this video (thanks) I removed the switch (swearing under my breath about the snap together, never service, buy a new one design philosophy.) I disassembled the switch which operates as a mechanically latched single pole single throw. The latch acts much like the thing on a retractable pen that lets you click the writing end in and out. When the actuating plunger is pressed, it closes the circuit by pressing a contacting bar down against two separated pads, one end of the bar is always touching one pad, the other end only makes contact with the other pad when the actuator is down (and latched.) What had happened was, at some time the switch overheated and softened the case enough that the contact pads sank farther into the plastic casing to a point where, when the connection bar was in the latched down position and released, it lifted to where it did not touch both pads. When pressed further, it would connect them and so act as a momentary pushbutton but would break connection in either the latched or unlatched position when released. By bending the contact bar slightly I took up the extra clearance and returned "normal" operation. I estimate the contact pad in the switch was about 1/4 of an appropriate area leading to the overheat and melted case failure. This is probably not accidentally bad design as it would cost only a penny or two to properly size the contacts. Intentional bad design philosophy is to sabotage your product so the consumer will have to buy another one shortly. Dyson sucks and not in a good way.

Thanks for the comment, I would never have thought of intentional bad design, but as you explain it, it makes sense... well, I'm not saying it's a good thing... it's frustrating and lame.

@@JonMorganMadness Please accept my apologies for bringing up the subject. I too was frustrated after working the problem on The Wife's DC07 and used your channel to vent. I spent 20 years as a mechanical designer of industrial capital equipment where failure to supply a 20000 hour service life will be punished severely by the market; they won't buy from you again. I hope I haven't corrupted your mind, but once seen, the problem can't be unseen. Market pressure tends towards economic injury to the consumer for the benefit of the supplier because of the supplier's greater and more concentrated influence. They hurt us because they can with the excuse that if they didn't they'd be replaced by some corporation that would. From $6000/gallon ink jet printer ink to class action suits against John Deere by farmers who just want to be able to fix their own equipment it is literally everywhere. Fortunately, I play both sides of this bet by owning stock in large consumer goods corporations. Once again...sorry.

I use a bungee cord hooked over the top of the switch. I just roll the bungee on to the switch and it works until I roll it back off.

There is two clips like you said at the back. Put a screwdriver. Into the gaps where there is the clips and tap the screwdriver And do the same on the other Side any problems with your Dyson just give me a comment on my newest video on my channel.

Get a stainless steel spudger pry blade. Separates a plastic catch like a boss. Buy two and you'll always be prepared for today's snap in garbage.
