The most common problem for a dyson dc07 is to do with the clutch and roller brush. This video shows you how to fix these problems.
The part number for the clutch as used in this video is 0407clutch

Alec, thanks for the tip to check the brush bearings! I found a Dyson DC33 Multi Floor at the side of the road, so took it home. Was making a really bad ratcheting sound, so thought for SURE it was the clutch gone & needing replacing. Got replacement belts & the belt lifter tools & sure enough, the clutch was fine, the brushroll was the issue. One of the bearings was mounted right on the rod, so instead of replacing it I just cleaned the inside of the bearing with some contact cleaner, water & a soft toothbrush & re-lubricated with 3 in 1 motor oil & a teeny bit of petroleum jelly. Re-assembled, & the Dyson works like new! Thanks, you saved me the cost of a new brushbar.

Despite being a nearly decade-old video, it helped me perfectly today with my Dyson! Thankfully it wasn't the clutch causing the rattling, but the roller joints and tube being SEVERELY Clogged! After a good wash-up (thanks to your dissasembly video!) I was able to get it up and running super smoothly! Thanks again! ^_^

Thank you so much for making this video! I have a dc07 that I replaced the clutch assembly on because it literally melted. When I did this repair I was completely unaware of the bearings in the roller. I started having similar issues with the roller about a year after the repair. Thank goodness I found this video because I almost ruined my new clutch assembly! There was a nest of hair around the pin that goes through the bearings. Luckily there was no hair in the bearings. I cleaned out the hair and reassembled the brush but it wouldn’t turn freely. So I put a couple drops of skateboard bearing lube in the bearings and brought them back to life in only a few minutes. Now it works perfectly and I won’t have to replace the clutch assembly again!!! I can’t thank you enough.

Superbly made and presented video. There's a similar one for DC04 motor replacement which is also extremely well done. Really grateful for these as I've been able to service my DC04 using a freebie one with lots of broken parts but a good motor and now my DC04 is working great again. Thank you so much, it's 2023 so 13 years down the line from the making of this video and it's still as useful as it was when it was made 😁

Thanks so much ! My Dyson vacuum was making a horrific noise when rollers were in gear. I took rollers apart from machine watching you. Wow do much Persian Haire were tangled and binding up the bearings. Now my Dyson is back to normal. Thanks again... Perhaps and no doubt saved so much money and waiting for my vacuum at a repair shop. Thus is why everyone should own a Dyson ....you save so much money and stress in the long run. And getting the dirt and dust up out of your floors. Thanks Dyson !!!!

After 7 years, my DC07 Animal's bristles stopped spinning. I followed your video step by step and discovered my clutch belt was broken. After watching your video, I realized it would be best to replace the clutch assy, as I had black marks on the pulley. I ordered the part (and the belt holder) from Amazon for a fraction of the cost of repair or replacement. You make it look easy!!! I struggled a little to get the new belts pulled far enough to fit over the holder, but once I got it, the rest was a breeze. Thank you for this informative video. I fixed it myself for approx. $50!

You helped me fix my Dyson after watching your video. The vac made an ugly noise, and the brush wouldn't turn when in carpet mode. A little tinkering with the roller, roller belt, side bars that hold roller in place to make it turn again, and wallla! The brush spins and the ugly noise is gone, and it works! Thank you for posting the video.

Wow! Alec is the man. Great video mate, cheers! Followed his instructions, went online to order a new clutch *and the belt tool*. Two days later watched the video again, and tadah!! Works like new. Alec you rock, thanks. PS) For those of you wondering if you really need the belt replacement/removal tool thingy. Yes you do. I could take the belt off just fine with using a few screw drivers. But, getting that thing on would have been a nightmare without the tool. Get the tool, skip a latte or two to pay for it and thank yourself later.

Great instructional video. Gave me the confidence to swap out the clutch in my DC14. One step that was tricky and could have used more clarity is the removal of the "Bare Floors or Carpet" knob. I had to watch another video to get the additional tip of prying it from two sides. Other than that, great video! Really appreciate the help.

Excellent video! You can make the job even easier by magnetizing (or gauss if you prefer) the tip of your T15 torx driver. Simply use General brand tool P/N 3ZH19 or P/N 3601 which can be found at most hardware stores for $3.00 to $5.00. The driver will have enough strength to hold the screw firmly in place during installation or lift it from that recessed cavity during removal.

Aloha right back at yah :) The problem you are describing is due to stretched belts. Have a look at one of my other videos about changing the clutch belts, it's a pretty fiddly job to be honest so have a look at the cost of belts v's cost of replacement clutch. If you have the cash just buy a clutch, if you have the time go for the belts. You must remove the clutch first to see if the white plastic wheels inside are in any way melted if they are you need to toss the clutch and replace.
