Thanks boss! I'm a fan of your Yugioh videos too! You know what would be cool if you haven't done it already is a video on cards that appear in multiple other cards. For example, how Marauding Captain and Gagagigo appear in the art of several other cards like, My Body as a Shield, Reinforcement of the Army, Warrior Returning Alive, etc. Dunno what points could be made about strategy and playability but it'd be a cool video nonetheless

Basically what +RxY said. The only reason _Pot of Greed_ is more meme-able than any other card (all of which the effects were also explained every time they were played), is because it is the effect-having card that was easily played most often in the Anime.

I actually play it in generic cyberse (at 3 in my 60 card variant and at 2 in my 40 card variant). Through 1 normal summon combo of Widget Kid + Lady Debug, going first, you can make a 4 material Saryuja, use its 3 material effect to SS one extra monster from hand (from one of the monsters you draw from the 4 material effect, ideally.) Link that off into Borrelsword, use Avarice to draw 2, and potentially keep combos going. Worst case scenario, the combo ends in a borrelsword. Really fun deck, highly recommend. They have all sorts of weird and crazy support.

Considering how it was the first new Pot Of spell ever made after Pot of Greed, Pot of Generosity is actually pretty hilarious. It's clearly made to be the opposide of Pot of Greed in every way - it's slim rather than fat, it has a calm expression rather than Greed's manic one, it has two handles instead of one, the names are obviously opposites, and Greed takes two cards from your deck while Generosity gives two cards to your deck. The only way Pot of Generosity could be more opposite to Pot of Greed is if it were a trap or something.

@pickyphysicsstudent2016 жыл бұрын
Excuse me, but Pot of Generosity is a +1 because while you are using one card from your hand, you're putting two cards into your deck and the cards in the deck do matter because that is where they come from. Greed is just wrong but generosity is good. I remember this one game, where I opened with 2 Pot of Generosities and used them to put back my starting hand into my deck where it would be safe from my opponent's Gouki deck's Topologic Gamblar's ExtraLink discard effect, where you can force your opponent to discard 2, if it's ExtraLinked. It's the best of all the pot cards. Pot of Greed... I have no idea what it does. Pot of Avarice has a Hitler mustache. Pot of Benevolence can be used to give your opponent back their cards from their GY, so it could be used as a neg 3, in that regard because you loose 1 and they gain 2 for their deck. Pot of Duality prevents special summoning and is a +0. Pot of Dichotomy, is grammatically incorrect because it shuffles 3 types of monsters but Dichotomy means: a division or contrast between *two* things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different. That's just wrong because 2 is not 3. Pot of Riches looks funny. Pot of Desires is a neg 9. Pot of Acquisitiveness is something I cannot pronounce, therefore it's bad.

I experimented with Pot of Riches in Amorphages around the time when they first came out and for the pure build it didn't do the legwork I hoped it would have done, but it certainly didn't hurt to run at 1 at the time. It was useful to recycle the level 2's if you were in a situation were you were forced to tribute them (Either in the pend zone or as a monster) and that was pretty handy, but I never really liked to see it in my first hand so it was more of a Mid-game/End-game card. There were probably better options over it at the time, but Network/YGOChrome went down around the time so I wasn't able to do extensive testing with anything else, and being a budget player I really tried to find anything that was useful (Or at least sounded useful) with a cost limit but I had fun with it for a good while. Unfortunately it was one of the decks that lost most of its playability in Master Rule 4. At least for pure as far as I'm aware.

Pot of Acquisitiveness may have some use in decks like D/D where a lot of their cards can banish themselves from the graveyard. But then, if you're running multiples, you don't really care that much so I guess not.

Ideally, you're using your search/combo cards before you use Pot of Desires, at which point Desires is digging for future plays or defensive cards. The other thing to remember is that even if you're running three Pot of Desires, you're probably not going to *use* all three. Players ran three just so they saw it as early as possible.

I just realized that flavor/artwork wise, pot of desires is a misfit; before it, konami would release two opposite pots followed by a combination of them. Desires, however is just a combination of greed and avarice, who already have combination pots in duality and dichotomy (even the effects fit decently in this flavor). So in conclusion: the scrubs were right all along; pot of desires is garbage!

One use I have found for pot of acquisistiveness is in a more miracle fusion based hero deck using wonder driver to recycle the miracle fusion and make a link 3 and use miracle fusion again to make another hero to make up for your losses or go in to another link 4 monster and then use pot of acquisitiveness to recycle the banished heros and draw 1, it’s not a half bad combo

they should make an archetype around pot of generosity and benevolence . ex: if pot of generosity is activated reveal this card in your hand, draw 2 cards and set 1 pot of benevolence from your deck. if this card would be shuffled from the graveyard into the deck (quick effect) add 1 pot of generosity from your deck or graveyard to your hand. if your opponent would draw a card shuffle this faceup card into your deck negate that effect and discard 1 card from your opponents hand (your choice). or something along those lines. i imagine them being like inquisitors.

Pot of desires is an interesting case of retroactive balancing where the addition of powerful effects that require garnets or bring cards out of the deck like Eldlich and Sky Striker make desires unplayable in them. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Konami has power crept these types of strats with cards like Dragoon while keeping slightly weaker engines access to Desires.

Funny how much changes in 4 years. Pot of Avarice has been unlimited for at least 2 years now? And it sees absolutely no competitive play cuz if you can't draw 2 off of it before ur turn 1 combo, it's essentially useless. But agreed, in older formats like Edison, pot of Avarice does feel better than pot of greed outside of the fact you usually can't use it on the first couple turns of the game.
@llamaryder16 жыл бұрын
Hey my dude I know you're a tcg based player but avarice in the past few ocg lists has been experimented with coming off, it went from limited to semi to completely off over the course of 3 or 4 lists. I do not keep up much with the ocg, but it's my understanding that it has not seen any sort of errata and it still currently doesn't see any competitive success despite no restrictions. I was shocked when I saw it off the list tbh, I agree with you that the card's applications today make it seem invaluable. Imagine having 3 avarice in zoo format. I get a lil Precum ooze just imagining it. The current lack of meta relevance may also likely stem from our current meta trend of t1 decks that don't play/spam a ton of monsters immediately such as tricksters and sky strikers. In those decks you're essentially playing down a card opening it. The decks that are likely to fill the gy such as abc, ba, plants before their hits, and lightsworn/grass decks usually would rather have their monsters stay in their gy for other purposes like buster, cir loops, barbar, fairy tale snoww, etc. the most logical deck initially in my mind was gouki. Goukis shit out extra deck monsters as well as their main deck monsters not really doing much in the gy once their search effect has been burned for the turn. However, we really only see the link climbing and gy fillup when they've gone off, and goukis biggest challenge is when they're looking to start up. Essentially playing 1 card down before you can start up vastly outweighs the plus/recycle. One last reason I believe is the complete lack of necessity to main ways of drawing past startup thanks unfortunately to skulldread needlefiber Isolde and especially knightmares. The gradual increase of extras serving dual functions of removal and pluses allows us to gear our main decks to focus almost exclusively on making initial plays and stopping those of the opponents. All of this combined has made avarice unfortunately power crept at least for now. I must assume their will be a deck in the near future that will make it a problem. Just figured I'd add something to the discussion. Also, pot of dichotomy did see competitive use upon release. It came out as HAT began rising to prominence which coincidentally was the one deck that easily tolerated every drawback due to the lack of special summoning on your own turn, the ability to recycle your hands, and the control play style dominating causing games to have a lot of turns to get around having the cold wave activation requirement.

Question at hand for my case: I play a pure Sky Striker Deck for my locals and many people have Kagari AT LEAST in their side decks, if not baseline. Would Acquisitiveness at 3 be the choice? Or rather 2? It just seems like a powerful counter to getting my Kagari banished a few too many duels
@MrMarinus182 жыл бұрын
I wonder what about turbo duels? What if they had tried that for real in the game? One addition that I think would have been good perhaps is to put a cost of speed counters on it for special summon. Maybe to keep it intuitive make it 1 speed counters for a level 5-6 monster and 2 speed counters for a level 7+. That cost is low but it's not 0 so it would still put the brakes on some decks that spam a lot of high level monsters. I know right now that's pretty much impossible to impliment but I think it would have been a neat way to play in the synchro era.

I dunno if it’s just me. I always thought of Pot of Greed as a +2, not 1. The reason I see it as a +2, is because outside of drawing cards, it’s nonexistent, it has no other effect than Drawing 2 other Cards, so it’s more like a Phantom than an actual Card, but that’s just me. It makes sense to me, but, that is just me.
@Dzeeff3 жыл бұрын
That's fair. I think when most people think of card advantage, though, they look at how many cards you start with versus how many you end with. So you start with 1 card (Greed) and then you end with 2 cards. So it's a net gain of 1 card
@MotorcycleCheetah3 жыл бұрын
That is true. So, I guess one might say in Game Sense it’s +1, but +2 in a Spiritual Sense? Maybe? Am I over thinking this? I think I’m overthinking this.
@addisonjones27126 жыл бұрын
I think pot of acquisitiveness might be a good way to reduce the cost of the pot of desires. like play desires then play acquisitiveness and then you've only dropped 7 cards from the deck and 2 from the hand to draw 3. it's still only a +1 but you do get to retrieve any key cards that might have been lost to the banish effect.
@Dzeeff6 жыл бұрын
You can't use Acq on face down banished cards :(
@DexterityYTC6 жыл бұрын
A BLS deck could use Pot of Acquisitiveness pretty successfully. That deck banishes it's own ritual spells and materials as well as half your board and a random card from your hand. More of a rogue or casual deck, but worth a mention I think.
