Looking at the ocg, reborn would do almost nothing in the tcg. Most of the lists I've seen recently in the ocg don't run it, and I think it's at the point where it's been power creeped enough to not be an automatic staple card in every deck.

The worst they did that I can remember is the Wind-Up Magician stuff. Konami wrote in their own statement, that they'd let it go to 3 in the next list(s) after they semi-limited it, as long as it doesn't have any meta impact. Guess what they did. Nothing. Still semi-limited. Gimme my goddamn wind-up link combos.

Most of the cards do deserve to be there if you play competitively. Because of Topologic Bomber Dragon, a card like Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis is absolutely ridiculous. Because all you have to do is spam out Topologic Bomber Dragon (which isn’t super hard) then load up the grave with 10 plant monsters, including Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis and you win the game. It is an absolutely unfair ftk. Was significantly more annoying to lose to than Gem Knight ftk.

@@willcampbell8997 I heard it got errata'd into the ground in the OCG and is unlimited and no one plays it. However, I can see it coming back without the errata because of the massive cost in card advantage, and in most situations BLS is better because it gives you card advantage and gets rid of most problem monsters, CED destroys, which isn't ideal, and gets rid of all card advantage, so you can't CED then summon something for game. You have to hope that you get your advantage back more quickly than your opponent does, because if you don't, you've lost.

Oldschool yugioh player here. IMO Konami didn't even have to make links to slow the game down, all they had to do was bring royal oppression to 1 or 2, book of moon to 2, solemn judgement to 1 and maybe heavy storm to 1 as well as other floodgate cards back. Years of playing the game (back when I did play competitively) has taught me that generic support and floodgates are kinda a major determining factor on whether a format is balanced or not. Of course, Konami would never do that because those cards would boost older decks/strategies while nullifying some of the dominance the newer archetypes have over the formats. In fact, I would also say that if those cards were back around a lot of cards could come off of the banlist which would make the format much more diverse and fun. But that's just my opinion...

Build a hero build with 3 stratos, vyon, shadow mist and all that shit (best build you can) and try to beat a real high tier deck like paleo, abc, zoodiac, true draco, invoked, dinossaurs, DDDs and all the other decks that were the meta from 2016/2017 . Give it a try, like 10 matches versus every single one of those decks, and tell us your conclusions. My shot is that you'll realize that 3 stratos still makes a hero deck lose to almost all of those in the long run

Burning abyss is pretty good even with master rule 4. Beatrice at 3 is amazing for the deck and it would basically become beatrice spam again. She is still a really powerful card that is hard to plahy around.

Grand Mole goes off start of damage step. All cards with quick effects, like hand traps (cause I’m sure that’s the way you’re thinking of stopping him) can’t go off once THAT step starts and finishes up. The only exception that rule is counter traps. That’s why he’s still at one!

I absolutely admire how accurate this was. Except for DADdy and Construct (it came back in OCG though), all of the stuff you mentioned has been kinda taken care of, even BA got a Link monster. The only thing I dislike here is Stratos. I'd rather keep my 3 Shadow Mist (searches them all and goes into one of the most powerful fusions of all time) than have Stratos back and Mist limited.

I miss shaddoll, they wouldn't be too crazy with how strong other decks have become, just the fact that you can combine the deck with so many things, Played it with great success with elemental heroes, with the lv 4 performages, with trains, with nekroz, with the old wyvern combo, spellbooks, all kinds of different combinations that your mind can create out of old cards that you have lying around from older metas, it was just really fun. I don't get why we can't have it back.

Only played this game from 05-11 and this video was pretty nostalgic but iirc Grand Mole(and the sacred phoenix of nemphys) were limited before they were even legal as the list came out after the prereleases but before general release. Stratos got one week at 3 before it was limited, it was a crazy SJC lol

Okay, going to be totally honest here. I think the Dragon Rulers can each come back to 1 (obviously ban the baby dragons again). Yeah they were the OG Tier 0 deck, but let's be real here, in the current meta they're completely de-fanged. D-Rulers were heavily reliant on their extra deck, and (besides Dracossack) have no protection against the smorgasbord of back-row and other removal effects we have today. Granted Redox in Zoo is a rather unpleasant thought, but if that ends up being a problem then Konami could always pull a Snatch Steal and only bring them back for a couple of months as an experiment, to see how they fair.

You can also use Lightpulsar Dragon in that Red-eyes Strat due to it having a similar same effect and being a more like Envoy of the Beginning for Summoning Condition, but it does the same thing and it can combo For Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon, and my Friend has that plus A good Dragon Card I gave him that I forgot the name was, but it was either a 3k or 4k beater, but I couldn’t use it, and it was a card he wanted so, it was a fair give a way since I could not play that card.

I think that you pretty much nailed it on the Stratos. They put it in the Hero Strike structure deck then just as it gets ready to sell they banned it. Hence why soo many complain. Me I wish they would unban it so I can just put it back in the deck to have a complete Structure Deck back. Don't need it really, just want it for the deck to be whole again.

Stratos got banned in 2013 when Konami went on a "kill everything" frenzy (Dragon Rulers, Spellbooks, Mermails, Fire Fists, and just about anything associated with Rescue Rabbit received a heavy blow on that particular list). The HERO Strike structure deck came out in 2015 (about a year and a half later). Stratos was in the OCG version of said Structure Deck (came out in 2014), but in the OCG at that time, Stratos was at 1.

Honestly, I've always thought Judgement Dragon deserved to be at least semi-limited. Paying 1000 life points to wipe the absolute entire field and an inconsequential summoning condition that makes it only a brick for maybe the first 2 turns, and you could easily OTK if you can wipe the field, solar recharge or foolish burial for Wulf, summon a second JD, and you win.

To be honest, the vast majority of cards can come off the ban list. The only things that should be banned at all are FTK enablers, hand loops or something that is genuinely broken that creates something that is tier 0. You can limit or semi-limit really powerful cards but why not just give us everything back. Put Dragon rulers to max, nekroz, shaddoll, inzektor, rabbit, everything. Gives us a format where everything is at full power and then balance things from there. Just keep loops and ftks banned and let us go wild and play what we want and build the best decks we can. Imagine a format where there are 10 tier 1 decks instead of the 2 we usually have, and another 10 really consistent tier 2 decks. Give players freedom, see what genuinely needs to be hit to some degree and go from there. Even a card like Pot of Greed, why is that banned? Why is a plus 1, that every single deck can play ban worthy? Even Upstart Goblin is at 1, wtf is that about? Its just a consistency card, its not ban worthy.

If you think PoG should come back, then you don't understand how the game works. It's not banned for balancing issues. It's banned because it's just, in concept alone, the best card in the game. It's a card that will always be played at maximum copies in every deck, without exception. There will never be a reason not to play it, just like a lot of other cards on the list, and decks will basically lose their diversity. Players are already playing Desires with no regard for the huge cost, just because it's an almost objectively worse PoG. Just look at the Pokémon TCG. They have more draw cards than we can count, and nearly every deck is playing the same 40 card base, with 10 energy cards depending on what type of deck you're playing, and like 10 actual Pokémon. Out of a 60 card deck, only 10 of the cards are actually different. Every deck basically plays the same 50 cards. I hate to tell you, but there wouldn't be ten different tier-1 decks. Dragon Rulers and Spellbooks would dominate everything just due to pure advantage and consistency. There wouldn't be any serious competition, and the decks that fall below tier-1 and can't compete (all but 2-3 decks) would be playing a lot of the same cards, and diversity would be gone. The banlist exists for a reason. It's not just to remove any FTK or infinite loop enabler. It exists to balance the game, and keep at least some degree of diversity. It gives meta players a chance to win for about 6 months at the cost of all their money, and then it hits their deck to a point where rogue decks can beat it. I'm all-for a format where a lot of banned cards come back to maybe one copy, and we see what players do with them. But if you think that Rulers, Nekroz, Spellbook, PoG, etc. should come back, then you haven't played the game long enough to know why that's an absolutely moronic idea. You're living in a fantasy world my friend. The harsh truth is that, even at full power, some previously tier-1 decks just can't compete with shit like D-Rulers and Spellbooks. It'd be a much less diverse format than what we already have, and I can guarantee that.

How do you know Dragon Ruler and Spellbooks would beat everything if we have never seen it. We haven't had a format where they 2 would be up against Nekroz, PePe, Zoo, etc. And even if they were the 2 best decks, would hitting some of the dragons to 2 or 1 make it a more even playing field? As for Pot of Greed, yes it will be run at max in every deck, why is that a bad thing? We are currently in a format where the same zoo deck list is the top deck with most of the cards are the same. Consistency is not something that should be hit on the ban list. The only thing unbanning PoG is mean it will be on every deck list. Thats it. Just like years ago when Reborn, Dark Hole and Heavy Storm were all at 1, every deck ran them. PoG doesn't make anything broken, all it does is improve consistency, for everyone.

BlueBloodPenn That's entirely the problem. If it's in every deck, then it'd defeat the purpose of a 40 card deck in the first place. There should never be a card that sees play in every deck in the entire game, without exception. Heavy Storm was never used in decks that had no trouble with backrow. Monster Reborn was rarely used in decks that didn't make use of the graveyard. Dark Hole and Raigeki have always just been optional for decks that could use more monster removal. None of them were ever played in every deck, because not every deck saw the need to run them. PoG is legitimately just free cards. And there's no deck in the entire game that doesn't benefit from free cards. Plus, if you think it'd seriously increase everyone's consistency equally, then you haven't put enough thought into it. The decks that already have tons of draw power and consistency will have a better chance of drawing PoG, as opposed to the slow decks, that don't have much draw power. From a technical standpoint, it'd just widen the consistency gap between fast and slow decks. That's not going to help the game one bit. And you know that not everyone abides by the banlist, right? There are plenty of people that play traditional format, and they'd tell you that Dragon Rulers, Spellbooks, and recently Zoodiacs, are the strongest decks to come into the game so far. So yes, people _do_ know which cards need to stay banned, and which ones don't. The problem isn't knowing which ones are still broken, because it's super easy to figure out. The problem is purely whether Konami will take them off the list or not.

For me it's Towers to 1, Scout to 2/3 (I've played OCG Qli where they have 3 of all the Qlis except Saqlifice and it's about as good as TCG Qli anyway), Artifact Moralltach to 3 and, a new one, Eradicator Epidemic Virus (there are so many rogue decks which could use this to great effect whilst the meta wouldn't really benefit)

i would like to see the banlist suspended for a season or 2, make everything unlimited with the exception of game lock cards like yata, fiber jar and the such. that way Konami can re-evaluate the game as a whole and see what truly needs to be limited or removed to move forward

I'd prefer Scout over Stratos tbh. I joined the game when Stratos was already banned, so him being unbanned wouldnt affect me. Scout on the other hand was hit when I was playing the deck because of Towers Turbo. Scout is a slow card now that the meta has shifted. Cosmic Cylone, Twin Twisters, Drident etc. all stop it in its tracks. Link Format as well heavily shit on the Qli deck because of their SS restriction. Scout can easily come back to 2 or 3 because of all these factors

I feel that Inzektor Dragonfly and Hornet can both be Semi- or Unlimited. Also curious to see if Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End would make an appearance on the meta landscape if it was at 1 or 2. And just to reduce clutter, can Book of Moon and Bottomless Trap Hole get put off the banlist (unlimited, at least temporarily)? Not so much to improve decks, but I feel that they are just cluttering the list unnecessarily. Especially Book of Moon since its pretty much dead if you are going second against Link_Turbo.deck.

Construct really never was broke, Shaddolls when they got hit weren't the best deck, they were just a good budget deck for way too long, allowing budget players to play a meta deck for once that was completely fair too and having players win via pure skill... But of course BANNED Construct their main boss monster gone, as well as only having 1 El Shaddoll Fusion for literally no reason. Konami wanted more money, thus they hit Shaddolls the #1 budget deck I've ever seen considering it was a budget meta deck that could still win events. Construct could be at 3 right now and Shaddolls probably still wouldn't be a meta deck... You could out Construct easily before with anything since it's not protected, and now you can just Kaiju it.

Bireon they should test the waters with 1construct and increment up from there. I dont believe Shaddolls would or could do anything in this fomat, especially with MR4, but I feel its best to slowly re-introduce cards than to shove it to 3 after being banned for so long.

I honestly think the Rulers could came back to 1 each. This format somewhat limits their extra deck toolbox, True Kings/Dracos would still be powerful (provided Komoney doesn't hit them), and could be spicy tech for lower tier decks.

Toward the end of their reign, they really didn't use their extra deck toolbox. A lot of Ruler-based decks (mostly dragons) just sent a shit ton of cards to the graveyard to fuel Dragon Ruler summons for a quick aggressive OTK.

I don't know. Red eyes darkness metal dragon and future fusion being unlimited could get them both banned. Even after getting nerfed future fusion can still summon five-headed dragon and put five dragons in gy. If you use that and then get redmd on the field which would be really easy especially if you had multiple you could break the game really hard. If you had 2 on the field and used 3 blue eyes white dragons in a future fusion you could summon 2 blue eyes white dragons in 1 turn. All you need to do is get polymerization in your hand which is also really easy and then you have access to blue eyes ultimate dragon with almost no effort in 2 turns and then have a five-headed dragon at the same time if future fusion stays up and you'd be able to revive another blue eyes in the next turn if all that isn't enough to win immediately. It would make boss monsters relevant again.

There are no reasons for Konami to remove any of these cards from the list unless they turn a profit. Making old decks relevant does not promote new sets. They recently released a box that includes original art for Exodia and Monster Reborn and then it was removed from the banlist to sell the set even moreso.
