I don’t have ability to fabricate things , so needed to keep to drop in fit. It turns out that Crown makes a disc brake upgrade kit for rear axles , and you can buy just the e-brake cables : they are drop in fit and connect perfectly to the Liberty parking brake. my friend drilled holes in the ZJ soft hose brackets and we bolted them to one of the leaf spring u bolts. I also put in the proportioning valve of Zj into the brake proportioner. Overall this setup works really well. I have a 93, which only had single diaphragm brake booster. I replaced it with double diaphragm from 95-96 models (also drop in fit, but make sure to use the spacer). That added strength as well.

Just a quick observation. At 15:16 the axle seal is installed backwards. Thanks for the other info though. Looking through these conversion videos to see if I want to change over my Jeep.

Awesome video just did the same swap! Sourced all parts from the liberty. Front wheel studs from liberty fit perfectly the e-brake cables work but they are a little long. Had to grab brake lines from the chassis down tho not just the axle. Few trips to the junk yard just to find the liberty had every part I needed for my 01 XJ with 8.25!

THIS WILL WORK ON A 87 XJ? WITH A 10" x 1.3/4 shoes? i see yours has the 2 - 1/2
@fredstanley57582 жыл бұрын
Nice job, dude! I’ve just finished gathering all the parts to do the same swap on my ‘98 XJ once the temps come down a little over here in the Sunshine State. I also got the backing plates and caliper mounts from a ‘05 Liberty at a local junkyard and then ordered the rotors, calipers, pads, e-brake shoes, brake hoses and associated hardware on Amazon. One question I have though is some of the other videos that I watched prior to me starting to gather parts for my swap showed them changing the studs on the axle tube flange that the backing plate bolted to and also having to change the wheel studs because both were too short. I didn’t see you do either one unless you did it off camera so I would assume that neither one of those changes are actually necessary? Thanks for another great video!👍
@dzlfreek2 жыл бұрын
I didn't swap the wheel studs but you do lose about 1/4" of length due to the thickness of the rotor. I did get new lug nuts though.

@dzlfreek Жыл бұрын
You may have to clearance the calipers and it’s going to be very close. You could consider 1” wheel spacers as well. If you go that route make sure they’re hub centric

did you do a proportioning valve swap over as well? just wondering if that will change the braking as well?
@dzlfreek2 жыл бұрын
I have the valve, but I didn't swap it out. After testing I didn't notice excessive front brake bias. Maybe I may change my mind after I go with bigger tires, but I have a friend with 35s and he didn't change his either.

@dzlfreek2 жыл бұрын
I haven't changed either. At my current tire size (29")I don't see a need. I only plan to go to 33" and unless I see a marked depreciation in brake performance, I probably won't then either.
@robertweinstein64412 жыл бұрын
This only works for Chrysler 8.25 correct? The real question I guess is applicability to Dana 35.
@dzlfreek2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it will work on a 35. I mean, anything is possible with enough ingenuity and welding wire!
@shanesaw13 Жыл бұрын
If you have the Dana 35 then just buy the complete Chrysler 8.25 rear-end from the junkyard and swap the whole thing in. Will probably be easier than just swapping brakes, and the bonus is you get rid of the weak D35.

@dzlfreek2 жыл бұрын

@MrRickChase2 жыл бұрын
The liberty swap is best for the chrysler 8.25 because the liberty just used a disc/coil spring version of the 8.25. I can't say with certainty, but i do not believe this works for the dana 44.

Pretty equal. Enough so that I found it unnecessary to alter the proportioning valve even though I have the parts to do so.
