You made the complexity of steering columns easy to understand. My 1970 Coronet has the shifter on the column. I had sent it to "IdidIt" when it came back I had to reassemble the unit again because of scraping with left and right turns.

very helpful video, thank you for taking the time to do this. I'm rebuilding my 70 charger column now. Not sure what should be there, or what I am missing, not finding too many people who are helpful, or can tell me what I have vs what parts I need to find. Your staple in the bearing, I believe that is probably a ground connection. I only know that because servicing a large commercial IR compressor one time, there was a filter that had staples holding a rubber seal on the end of it. After the tech. pulled them out, later read the instructions/warning label about DO NOT REMOVE he found them, and popped them back in. Oops. lol

Cody, this is the most unbelievably detailed video for a Challenger that I've seen! This really helped me with replacing My ignition switch and turn signal mechanism. Questions, where can I get a new snap ring for the lockout tooth plate and where can I get the small copper wheel mechanism for the turn signal piece that rides on the brass ring (I have the copper plunger type which wears quickly). thanks! Ernie.

As far as I know know neither of those parts are reproduced at this time. You might be able to find the part at Roseville Moparts by contacting David Radcliffe or the next option would be 2nd hand market (eBay & Junk Yards).

Hi Cuda Cody, I’m helping one of my friends rebuild his 73 Cuda. This next week, we will be replacing the ignition lock mechanism and ignition switch. Thanks again for the video series you have posted on KZbin around the E-Body steering column rebuild, this has been the best guidance I’ve been able to locate for this project. Currently, the ignition key is frozen into the ignition lock mechanism, is this going to make this procedure more difficult? We plan on removing and replacing this old ignition lock mechanism and ignition switch. The question I have is: Does the steering column need to be removed to accomplish this procedure? Looking at your video E-Body Steering Column Part 2 (Disassembly) Cuda & Challenger. At minute 13:00 in this video, it looks like getting the pin out of the steering lock gear (the pin designed to be removed with the Miller C-4113 Tool, which we don’t have) will be extremely difficult to remove without removing the steering column, can this pin be removed without removing the steering column? Thanks again for your guidance and help, Steveo

Replacing my Challenger steering box and when I pulled it off the rag joint (coupler) was not only in rough shape both shoes were split in half!! I bought a new rag joint and the internals and putting it back together. Question on the small pin that is provided. Do you just pound it in so it bites into the steel shaft itself. Is the hole in the steering shaft simply a guide hole to align with?

Hi on your Cuda Steering colunm assembly video, you didnt actually show the Ignition lamp install. I was wondering where the lamp plugs into? Also, I have been restoring certain areas on my '70 Cuda Convertible. I found an under dash Map/Foot light and the ignition switch lamp. I spoke to the original owner and he remembers that there were fender mounted turn signal indicators. However the car doesnt have them now, he told me both fenders were replaced. So, here is the question: I think the car had the A01 light package, but the code is not on the tag! I have one fender tag but the fender has a hole where a second tag might have been? With what I have found of the items in the Light Package do you think this car had the A01 Package? I'm going the get fender mounted turn indicators and install them, do you know where they would plug in? Sorry for all the questions. Steve

I have a 1970 Duster 340 that the ignition switch in the column grenaded. Unfortunately, it took something with it because the hot lead(s) were shorted to the column and I get no power for starting the car, the radio, etc. I think it is the heavy red lead that goes to the fuse box, but no fuses are blown. Where does this lead connect in the engine compartment? Everything in the engine compartment got black spray paint on it, and the only large red lead that I can find goes to the starter solenoid (next to the battery). Can you help me get power into the cab again? Do you have any info on the A body? I have the factory shop manual, but it is no help because it only shows the wiring schematics but not the locations of the actual components. Thank you.

I've not done a 74 column, but it should use the same bearing and it sounds like that's what it could be. You can get to that upper bearing without removing the column from the car. So might be worth checking it out and seeing if it's just a bearing. If you need a bearing, call David at Roseville and let him know you talked to me. He'll work you a good deal on the part you need. www.rosevillemoparts.com/product_info.php/p/bearing-upper-steering-column-shaft-all-62-90/products_id/1794

hi there, i have a question. my steering wheel on my 72 challenger can be pushed and pulled 1-2 inches in and out. also visible on the coupler to the steering gear. are the pins in the telescoping shaft broken? or can i fix this some other way thanks in advance greetings from germany

Hey Cody, I rebuilt my column (73 barracuda) trying to install now and the coupler is one inch too short to connect to power steering box. I was very careful with steering shaft to not collapse it. Is there something I’m missing? The brackets under the dash are all adjusted all the way in the direction of the firewall. What am I doing wrong? Will it hurt anything to hammer lower part of shaft down to reach? (Opposite of collapsing it)

I've replaced my ignition switch of a column shift automatic on a '70 E body. Since my column is still in the car, how do I replace the bearing, since I can't move the shaft enough to put my hand behind the bearing housing to diffuse the shock of hitting the bearing downwards to seat it, I'm concerned that pushing down will collapse the shaft. The manual says you want to push the shaft up to seat the bearing, instead of pushing the bearing down by itself. Do you have any advice? Would screwing the bearing unit into the column work the bearing downward to reduce collapsing risk?
