One thing that I have learned about the EFlite Draco is that it HATES being upside down. It recovers very poorly from aerobatic maneuvers, as that is not what it was designed to do. It is a high-performance STOL airplane and that’s it. Also, low level aerobatics are incredibly dangerous in non-aerobatic machines. Shame that this had to happen. Watched the last part at 1/4 speed and he held up elevator all the way through the (underground) loop. He had enough power to continue straight up or he could have made it a a split-S and flown upright directly away from the camera. It is a god idea to never land coming directly at yourself. It is hard to judge distance and speed. The left turning at takeoff can be fixed with right rudder. It will help offset torque and p-factor that are dominant at low speeds and high power settings. Then you can fly a crisp pattern easily.

I lost 2-3 pints of blood internally and in my Blatter ,. My blood count was monitored every other hour to see if my kidney was healing or if it had to be removed . Luckly it did heal back together since I had to stay in bed the whole time without moving. I still kept on skiing but was very cautious from then on in Colorado,Utah,california,and Nevada. Oh by the way I spent a year in Vietnam getting mortar fire ,snipper fire and getting stitched up from stupid things since I drove an 17 ton army wrecker all over the lower part of Vietnam. If I ever get to own the Horizonhobby eFlite Draco RC, I’m going to fly it in a similar fashion to Mike Patey…more scale, without the performance of some 3D or air show flight demo pilot maneuvers. Because whenever any RC pilot starts flying this plane in a fashion otherwise this will be the result, not enough mistakes high to attempt recovery, and keeping the plane out in front of the zero line. I know the wind was a factor. I’m glad nobody got hurt, just the $600 slam to the wallet.

My Turbo Timber flys like the Draco. I added an Aerostar 60 RVS ESC for reverse thrust after touchdown. Works great when you can find the right switch! I accidentally hit the reverse switch in the air and when I went full power the prop noise was scary. I immediately cut the power and landed to inspect for damage. No damage but lesson learned is choose a switch that is hard to get to like the A switch. I’m sure we will hear about reverse thrust loss of control incidents.

Actually, the reason he crashed was because the clubs safety guy was right behind him..he had to come in right at us due to the wind...he didn't realize he had that much energy when he bounced...normally he would have just added power, fly right over us and go around. OMG!! Sometime you can get carried away at the performance and loose it
@alpinerc12493 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what happened! It's a very comfortable airframe and is so predictable with a pile of power and performance. Can't wait to get her back up.

Thanks Sean!! We actually had an epic flying morning. Normally we try to fly by ourselves, but it was such a nice day, the weekend warriors were out in force. Cheers!!

This man gets it! Lol

Stupid pilot error...to make a loop this low needs experience and work with the throttle. There were minimum 2 more errors in flight, but the plane is very forgiving and doesnt resulted in spinning stall death a lot sooner :D

Looks like that bounce caused the control arm on the elevator to slip - changing the position of it and causing that death loop. Unless the pilot panicked and intentionally applied full up-elevator.

I swear everyone is crashing these things to rub it in Mike’s face
@markfehrenbach42043 жыл бұрын
You need altitude for loops.🤔

Why didn’t u use the reverse-prop function to prevent the crash just before impact!

Sorry to see this happen. I know the feeling. Hope you get it repaired and flying again soon.

You were almost on the ground.. that sucks...

He almost sounded like he crashed on purpose, lol. "Did you get it"!?!? 😃 Unfortunately, no...
@ChrisCallahan20183 жыл бұрын
No..lol tried pull it up because the safety guyvatvthe field was right behind us. He could have just flown over the pits and went around, but he tired to pull up and reverse it but that sadly didn't work.

Aw dang, at least the enthusiasm never left. It'll probably fly again with some hot-glue here and there!

I will keep practice crashing my Tundra for a while longer. That hurt to watch.

Excellent example of how to quickly disassemble your plane at the end of the day. Next time try the loop with a fresh battery! Sorry about your expensive oops!

Lol...thanks Pat!

Every plane has it's limits, this one is fantastic and if it was balsa it would be garbage bag time. In this case just a little TLC and you will be back in business.
