I just bought this jet after watching a friend crash it on his maiden takeoff roll. We made some significant changes to the electronic setup and now the aircraft flies 120% better. I bought mine without the AS3X. I have a DX20 transmitter, but all you need is 9 channels. 1. I cut the Y connection to the horizontal stabilizers and remade the connector so that I could dedicate them to an independent receiver channel acting as tailerons. (I fly all of my jets in this configuration so as to give better and more axial roll control during low speed maneuvering.) 2. We cut out a portion of the turtle deck aft of the cockpit in order to access all of the wiring. (You can cut along the panel lines in the airframe and it is unnoticeable. 3. We removed the fan cover and fan to gain access to the rudder Y connection. We cut the lead from the left rudder and made a new lead for the left rudder and routed it up to the cockpit area. 4. We set up our Spektrum transmitters for Taileron A and two rudders. 5. We set up a mix with flap to left rudder in order to achieve “toe in” on the rudders as the full size F-18’s do. I have it set to activate on my second flap setting which are 0/40/100% in the Flap Settings. We installed the turtle deck cutout previously mentioned back in with silicone. The result is that the aircraft takes off in half the distance with toe in activated and has no negative stall tendencies. At less than 1/4 throttle, the aircraft rocks in the roll access and drops the nose slightly on stall. Trimming with flaps and toe in is 10% down elevator due to ballooning.additionally I put my steering on its own channel to control the amount of ground steering during the taxi/takeoff roll/landing rollout. I am flying with wingtip sidewinders and centerline tank. Any other armament and you sacrifice airspeed.

Wow! That’s certainly an in depth series of modifications you did! Only 9 channels? Really? That’s incredible. Gee, if my blue angel version had actually flown well and wasn’t destroyed I’d definitely do what you did. I like the Toe in idea for decreasing the takeoff rollout!

On the F/A-18C/D the fuel tanks are on the inner pylons and the AIM-120's outer but being a USMC A/C should be bombs, but it is a nice flying model.

Guys, you've got this one way too nose heavy... IDK what e-flite was thinking, but the cg is at 90mm with neutral EL at 3mm not 4mm. Flies SO much better there. Mines locked in and only needs 5% UP EL with flaps. If you're not going to change the motor 6s 4000 is where it's at. Just too weak with a pack any heavier. Great plane! I'm gonna mod mine soon. Can't wait!

Looks like 4000 is the way to go. My Red Arrow Hawk uses the same 80mm set up and runs that battery. No reason why this one wont work with a 4000!!

Just wanted your expert opinion Ryan, I just crashed my Bae Hawk due to a brown out, I have had brown outs with the same receiver, its an Admiral Rx600SP, I only use Spektrum Transmitters because that's all I have, what reviewer would you recommend? Just want something very reliable..

I'm thinking of getting that one but for now I'm flying the a-10 a-4 and the t-45. All freewing of course. But good luck to you and she likes a little speed coming in with the missiles.
