Still the best overall sound module ever made. Whoever put this set of sounds together was a GENIUS.
@TheCrazyStudent Жыл бұрын
@@fender1000100 Saying that the Proteus is still the best overall sound module ever made is perhaps not very realistic. The Proteus has no chance whatsoever against the Roland Integra 7 and similar more modern modules. Even a Yamaha MU2000 is far more capable and technically superior than a Proteus in many ways. The Proteus doesn’t have a decent set of build-in effects, not even reverb. All it has is a bit of chorus and that’s it. That alone is pretty sub-standard in terms of sound modules, even for the time when the Proteus was released. I mean, even the Roland MT-32 / D-110 / U-110 (1987/1988) and similar modules that were released during the pre-General MIDI era have reverb built in, but the Proteus 2-series (1990) doesn’t. Still though, the Proteus did sound quite good for its time especially when you started adding a touch of reverb and other effects externally in order to beef up the sound. But today, the Proteus is quite outdated and there are lots of better options out there. Even a Roland JV-1080 from 1994 is far superior when put against a Proteus 1 or 2. So no, the Proteus is not the best sound module ever made. Maybe it was one of the best for a short while back in 1990, but a lot of interesting alternatives started to show up already in the early 90’s, and around 10 years later there was no way anyone could realistically say that the Proteus 1 is still the best thing around.

I don't understand why so many people dislike or even hate these Emu Proteus sound modules, you still can buy these modules quite cheaply on EBay if your lucky. These Emu modules are still good as a starter instrument bank and I have heard the sounds are also editable so you can still use it as a pad synth and generally turn any sound into a synth. These Proteus modules also condensed the same samples from the Emulator's disks so these Proteus modules are also good as a more affordable and smaller alternative to an Emulator.

I did consider buying a Proteus/1 in addition to the Proteus/2 but in the end I decided just to stick with the Proteus/2 since I mainly only wanted this module for the marimba sound but it is possible to get a marimba sound very close to the Proteus/1 by editing patch 70 and assigning the xylophone tone to both parts. I also managed to synthesize the bell pad close but for stuff like the pianos basses and saxophone I prefer the Roland U-220.

It's a killer bass patch for anything from Electro FUNK to techno. My mate used it to do a remake of Mjs wanna be starting something. And Snaps RHYTHM is a dancer. And it sounded amazing. And what makes the proteus really awesome. Is you can edit the sounds quite extensively. So there might be a sound on there that's close to what you want. And with some tweaking you can get it spot on and save it. The proteus to own is the PROTEUS 1 XR. You can save 256 user patches. When I first got it. The first thing I did was edit the drums to make a killer electro KIT. Then that bass patch. I rounded the attack on it. So it's pure moog style electro FUNK. And then I took the orch hit and flattened the sound to get that killer Fairlight type effect as used on Planet rock. Just an amazing module.

Check to see if the previous owner changed the main outputs and other parameters on the Proteus. If you see the MIDI activity from the M1, MIDI is good, you just need to figure out why it's not passing the sound via software to the main outputs.
