Mine is loaded with the Composer, Protozoa, Siedlaczek Orchestra & Vintage Collection SIMMs. I still use it for all sorts of sounds i can't get anywhere else. I load the SIMMs in my PK-6 sometimes too.

By which you mean, off the shelf USB or flash drive, right??? The aggravating thing about looking at these on e-bay is that the ROMs cost more than the unit they go in :-( So.... Sampler -> rompler -> flashpler???

the p2k is a great all-rounder...with a bit of prodatum tinkering you can get some lush pads out of it too.....nice...i stil want the vintage pro though...love emu.

Maany years ago I tried using the VST supplied with the E-MU 404 sound card, and I thought back then that the module sounded terrible. Now I like it more than then.

Racks in general and ROMplers in particular are poorly regarded right now. This is unfair. EMU was very highly regarded for the quality of their sample library, and, except for the acoustic pianos, most of the samples on this unit have held up remarkably well. The sounds are rather generic, and it probably isn't an essential purchase for most players, but, at the current prices, it is worth adding to a studio. It compares very well to the early Motif and Fantom racks of the time.

Hi, is it normal that the Midi LED stays on permanently even if you don't play on the keyboard ?

Yes. It will blink constantly but when you strike a key the midi light will sync up u til you stop playing, then it will blink continually again. It’s normal

I have it sitting at home…( Carnaval ) still...I just sold away the Proteus 2000 recently….also sold away the KX49 as above video…. Bought a Krome 73 & Yamaha MOXF8…guess its an upgrade..The Proteus had very decent to lively sounds till this day..I Love E-mu products for sure,

I don't think it comes included with the VST, you had to purchase the seperate libraries to load them in. But now that E-MU has gone bankrupt, all of the packs have been released on the Internet Archive. I'll try and find a link for you!

I have this one but are rather disappointed, it sounds so dated when you compare it to the Roland JV/XV from the same era. The Rolands still stand strong, the Proteus does'nt

Rik Vanhoenacker I have this and the JV2080. The JV2080 factory sounds to me are stale, however I love editing from scratch by combining waveforms. On the contrary I think the Proteus 2k has great sounds that are ready to go and fun to tweak quickly using the parameter knobs.

The sounds are returning via Stranger Things and the regular 30 year cycle, so either buy the sounds now or within a sample pack that someone offers later at a much higher price! I bought the 6 pack of sounds in 2009 and only installed them. After locating the 6 discs that I could not use, I contacted the current distributor (Digital Sound Factory) and obtained the files upon verifying my purchase. I immediately recognized songs, producers, and artists who used the sounds! Many modern sample kits are still based upon these same sounds! I am still amazed!
