Hey friends,
For anyone with an enclosed trailer or toy hauler, a must have is proper tie downs for your gear/toys. The E-Track system is a fairly popular option and, for me, the flexibility, low-profile, and relatively low cost make it a must-have!
Join me as I install it on my new 2021 Grand Design Momentum 381M Toy Hauler (I was a little nervous drilling that first hole in the floor :) haha)
Overall it was a fairly straight forward process just a little time consuming. Make sure you measure, measure again, maybe even one more time, then drill away!
I opted for through-bolts and screws for my configuration to give me a solid mounting support. Yours may be different depending on your application.
Do you have E-Track? Let me know what you think? I'm definitely a fan now, can't wait to put it to good use!

Very nice, clean install. Beautiful trailer as well. Curious on what side by side you are loading. Currently I have an X3 Max so I do like that you bolted to the steel I-beam 💪

Thanks John! You have good taste, I have a similar side by side, I have an X3 XRC so just the two seater. Bolting it to the I-beam frame was a must for me, I wanted to make sure it wasn’t going anywhere 😋

Great install. I’m about to do similar when I get my 29 G this spring. Did you use locktite on the threads?

Thanks! I actually did not but I’ve considered going back and throwing a dab on just to be extra safe. However, currently they’ve stayed tight over a few thousand miles over four states 💪

Great video Jaime! I would like to tackle this in my Grand Design 397TH that's on order. 1. Can you tell me what year and model your rig is? I'm not sure I'll have access to the frame rail for that entire length. I can't recall if the 397 is open below at that location. Won't take delivery until April. I haul a Can Am Commander, Polaris Sportsman and Harley Electra Glide(not all at the same time!) So I could use the tie down options that E-Track affords. 2. Can I assume you measured each existing tie down screw location to keep it all straight, or did you rely on a measurement point from the wall after your first drilled hole? Thanks again!

@@joemalone3989 haha no problem! well that knocks out the first question haha. I'd bet your 397 will be very similar, at least underneath. Mine actually isn't open below, it has a cover, but the cover ends at the inside of the frame rail. So this gives me, and should give you, access to drill/bolt through the outside of the frame rail since that's where the cover ends. You're going to love the e-track for the tie downs, I have a Can-Am X3 and it makes it so easy to haul it around. Yes I used both the wall and existing tie downs to give me my reference for aligning it but also to make sure I was as close to the center of the frame rail edge. Trust but verify right!? :) The existing tie downs were a huge help since they were a clear indication of how far those screws were from the frame rail edge center. Let me know if you have any other questions at all and also congrats on your order, welcome to the GDRV fam!

@@JaimetheNomad Great! Thanks for the reply. I'll try to get to the dealer and see if they have one on the lot I can crawl under so I can check it out. I'm a planner. We can't wait for delivery and getting back on the road. We have a Voltage TH, but we knew we were going to upgrade so didn't want to put a lot into it. Been eyeballing Big Mo's for a couple years now.

@@joemalone3989 Happy to help Joe! I get it, it's nice to know what you're getting into so there are no surprised when you're in the middle of a project. I had purchased a handful of items for the rig before I took delivery and based a lot of my choices off of other videos ha. You'll be quite impressed with your 397, very similar layout to my 381.

Great Video! I know this is some what off topic but I’m looking at this same Toy Hauler. Noticed in a pic that you may be hauling with a SWR truck. I’m look at getting a swr that is GVWR of 11,500 and 3,300 payload. I’ll be over sightly based on all the theoretical numbers. Just wondering how yours sizes up and how it performs in the real world. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Wade! and no problem, happy to help! I did a ton of research before going down this path as well and info was limited and all I got was most people recommending a DRW but not a lot of real world experience :( So, here's the thing, for the most part it all comes down to payload, that's going to be the key item 95% of the time. my SRW can PULL just as much as a similarly spec'd DRW truck, but the DRW will have twice the payload capacity. Toy Haulers are where things get interesting, for anything but a Toy Hauler I'd say nope, don't do it (on larger rigs like the 381M etc), it'll be too heavy for sure. BUT, the key with Toy Haulers, IF used as a "toy" hauler haha, is that all that weight of toys etc in the garage will offset the pin weight and POTENTIALLY keep you within your weight limits. I did multiple CAT Scale weights fully empty and fully loaded and I am within my weight limits for each, for my specific truck. When I'm empty my pin weight is about 3150 so it's definitely pushing the limit for my truck but still just barely in spec. However, when I have my side by side (canam x3 - 1800lbs) in the garage, with both fuel tanks full (genny and toy), my pin weight is just over 2600lbs, maybe 2650 or so. So yes it can be done, you just have to think about how you will use yours. put stuff in the garage and your golden! As for pulling it, it does really great! I also have the Gen-Y gooseneck conversion hitch which is a beast and help soak up movement etc. Didn't expect this response to be so long but hope it helps! let me know if you have any other questions.

@@JaimetheNomad Super Helpful. Thanks! Yeah I’ve been doing a ton of research on this as well and everyone has an opinion and most are rig specific or just a very general statement so seeing someone with a very similar setup is helpful. Agree the payload and hitch weight seems to be the most difficult part to determine when you’re ordering a truck and when you’re looking at trailers. Just as you pointed out part of it is how you load it and keeping enough weight on the hitch to make it safe.

Did you run the E Track down the middle of your toy hauler? I have 2 motorcycles to haul and want something like this in the middle.
@JaimetheNomad
@JaimetheNomad Жыл бұрын
I thought about it but I didn't run one down the middle. I have two bikes also in storage, when I do use them and go to the track I use the Baxley Sport Chocks (which I love btw). Then I'll use the E-Track on the sides and for the center mounting I just use the factory D rings. the main reason I didn't do a strip down the middle is access. I chose the exact side position because I could use through bolts to the I-beam frame. If I added a a strip in the middle I would only be able to use wood lag bolts through the floor only unless you drop the liner/insulation under the RV. which is definitely an option too.
