Great to see this video - bought back a lot of memories. I first visited Deal in Dec 1977 with my parents. We'd come across from Port Sorell on a ketch called 'Wanda'. Stephen Murray Smith on Erith radioed the light keepers on Deal to enquire what the yacht was that had just arrived. The light keepers came down to meet us just as we came ashore in the dinghy. My parents and I met Stan and Shirley Gray on that trip which led to a long friendship. Stan was a lightkeeper. I distinctly recall as a child having dinner with Stan and Shirley at their home and being taken down to the jetty afterwards in the Haflinger 4WD they had on the island at the time. The penguins used to block the road there were so many of them. Over at Erith was the wreck of the St Nicholas. The steel hull was still intact then. She'd gone aground in '61 I believe. So much has changed since these wonderful memories were created.

In 1977 Deal Island would have been a very remote place to visit. I'm glad you liked watching and it brought back good memories

Thanks for the video. I've hiked to the southern point of Australia twice. It's a really nice walk.

@@SailingNoRegrets yeah, noticed as I watched more they were all hiding out in the shade, i mean they hang out in a mob under a tree, well they haven’t got a tree, so under a rock or bush.. makes sense..
