Lived on the island in the late 80"s, went there for 6 weeks to help build the hotel (3:57), stayed for 18 months! Great people and pace of life.

A great overview of the island thanks - I can vouch for the golf courses which are world class, as are the crayfish and King Island Cheddar cheese!

We found it to be very interesting. It will be a pity if the dairy has to close next year.

Continued..I was secretary to the Mine Manager and also acted as Chainperson for my husband when he did some survey work re drainage of the Currie race track and survey of black mineral sand stockpiles at Naracoopa. There were a number of tragic mine accidents, and also a fatal road accident involving university researchers in the seventies. This movie does not show the truly harsh roaring forties weather so that the shrubbery appears sheared off and one did not usually venture out without warm clothing, even in summer. The beaches were glorious, and at times you might see a breaching whale. The fairy penguins were cute, and it was amazing to camp at the beach as the mutton birds seasonally flew in. Sad to hear recently of possible demise of the cheese industry...hopefully it can be saved.
