These two videos are the greatest gift to the drumming community. Freddy was clearly connected to the universal synergy, a messenger himself. Thank you to all of today's heroes who spoke so fondly about him. I will carry this lesson forward in honour of all of you x

Thank you, John, for Parts 1 and 2 - for coordinating, assembling, and hosting this amazing gathering! 🥁 So glad it happened! I love the stories and conversation. I first learned about Mr. Gruber in the 1990s from his appearances in Modern Drummer, and from Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, and Neil Peart. I was curious to learn what he taught all of these legendary drummers. Today, I'm highly privileged to study with Bruce Becker. It's been a wonderful journey, and I'm most thankful for all that I am learning.

Great talk. Thanks to all of you. It's the first time I've heard someone use the “maracas” example (42:53). I'm happy to hear that! I have been using this very example for many years to help students understand what I like to call the “perpetual motion”.

Thanks again John for Part 2 of Freddie's lessons. I know now the reason that Ian Wallace sounded so wonderful, Freddie was his secret! A nice tribute.

Again! Pure Gold! Great! And how he influenced those drum masters, he also influenced me in technique even without having had the opportunity to meet him. Great!

I caught the first hour on the live stream and just watched it here on KZbin. It was great to see this part 2 so I could see what I wasn't able to watch on the original stream. I loved hearing all the Freddie Gruber stories and how everyone honored him as well. The drumming community is a special one!!!

John, Neil Peart was a very good friend of Freddie’s. Neil had put together the “Burning for Buddy” tribute and in my opinion was very “stiff” compared to the other drummers. After that Neil took lessons from Freddie which are online. After Neils daughter and wife died around 1997 he travelled the country and stayed with Freddie in LA for a month or so. The story is in Neils book Ghost Rider. He always spoke fondly of Freddie in his other books he wrote.

Yes, Neil was MC at Freddie’s Memorial in LA in 2011. They were very close. I attended some of the recording sessions for “Burning For Buddy” and no doubt Neil was the driving force behind it.
