I just keep telling people that consoles are the arcades of our generation. Companies have adopted the exact same business practices from that era: - Instead of dropping quarters into the cabinet, you're paying microtransactions. - Instead of having to head down to the arcade, you're stuck with always online DRM. - Instead of waiting in line for your turn to play at the cabinet, you're waiting to find a match on increasingly shitty servers. Perhaps the most obvious and glaring evidence is that the 'Pay to Win' model has made its triumphant return. The more quarters you throw at a game, the better your odds of winning. To that point and its not perfect, but PC has become the consoles of this generation. As consoles had once been, PC has becomes your little slice of freedom or more importantly customization via choice that everyone wants but, it seems, are too afraid to actualize on their own. Remember when consoles were so expensive that people stuck to the arcades? Well, that's the case with the faulty logic that is the price of building and maintaining a gaming PC. In that same vein, the only way companies can keep you in the arcades (console market) is to keep you dumb, stubborn, and cheap. Which you are - mostly thanks to the influx of casuals. So companies have lowered their standards to this new low bar and are now competing to be the 'least worst' rather than the best. Gee, I wonder if there are any political parallels to draw from this? Something about cultural standards and their depreciation through an influx of an uniformed individuals with the same power in the market as the old established consumer base? Nope. Couldn't be. Economic modeling doesn't graft onto sociology. Nope. That's what my Socialist professors told me anyway.

Its honestly bizzare. I know that this generation is has been going on for 4 years but it barely feels like its been around for 2. The Xbone has basically no games of its own, Sony is 50% remakes/remasters/refucks of old games from PS2/PS3 era and Nintendo while strong on exclusives is poor in every other regard. I found my old comment from your E3 2015 video and it still applies here. If I may: That's really the thing I love about shows like E3...when they get it right. Cut the celebrity bullshit and do like most of us were forced to do since grade school. It's really a simple concept: *Show your work. Prove your methods.* For developers presenting at something like E3 or PAX, that means *gameplay.* Cut the pre-rendered, pre-alpha crap to a minimum. Hype trailers are all well and good, but back that shit up with something tangible for the gaming audience (your potential consumers) to go hands-on with and then the hype may very well be justified.

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever get an affordable gaming system that manages to beat the old mouse/keyboard and controller setup. Everything tightly packed together allowing for accurate and quick responses. With VR you can't make fast and or deep games due to the nature of the control scheme. Also, welcome to the PC master race where we can play games for nearly all the consoles via emulators :D

I like VR. I want more opportunities for VR. I think the console market embracing VR tech will help lower the cost for me and advance the software further to be more practical and less buggy. I love it in GTA V, ARMA 3, Halo CE/2/Online, Squad, Fallout, RE7 (kept giving me adrenaline rushes), and Skyrim. I like the stereoscopic 3D effects with actual depth. I love the immersion. I love how it tricks your brain to think you're there regardless of graphics.

Let's not forget about "Detroit: Becoming Human" - the game where "androids" are socially oppressed by the tyrannical authority of the police and must start a revolution in order to be treated 'equally'. All that was missing was the main character offering the guy a Pepsi can and a swiss cheese-looking smile on his face at the end of that trailer. And someone mentioned that too many people are getting into making video games for the wrong reasons on here, and I agree, with one addition: there's too many unambitious people with no ounce of creativity getting into making video games for the wrong reasons. And those who have the guts and the brains to come up with something worthwhile gets the axe (i.e: a Bioware employee threatens to pirate The Last Night the day it drops).
