What does it look like to love the Bible? The Bible - 66 books filled with chapters and verses, stories and histories, written by a number of different authors over a period around 1,500 years - this book is the foundation of the Christian faith. The Bible is read in churches around the world every weekend, is read daily by millions of believers, and can even be found in many a hotel drawer. But what does loving the Bible - God’s Word - look like and how does the history of the Bible affect how we look at it and love it today? In today's episode, host Jason Wieland is joined by Dr. Susan Lim. Susan is a historian and writer and has a new book out titled Light of the Word: How Knowing the History of the Bible Illuminates Our Faith. In this conversation, Jason and Susan talk about what it means to love God’s Word, how knowing the historical nature of the Bible can impact how you read it today, what the most compelling challenge to Scripture is and how we respond to it, and what it truly looks like to read the Bible in faith.

Fact check; Old Testament is a explanation using examples in storytelling form of how different human mindsets (mental attitudes) are what cause the human being’s surrounding environment to manifest. When this view is applied all Old Testament stories provide insight on “proper” thinking. New Testament is literally an expansion on this concept of mindset being the key to a human beings life of happiness or misery but it is written to control the masses im the form of a requirement to worship a very good and spiritually enlightened man jesus, jesus taught how to allow “christ” ie our spiritual energy which is lgod energy into our mindset.

@@garywaynemyers2624 So true. So many versions of the bible, but God isn't one for confusion. Why then are 45 thousand different denominations unsatisfied with the bible they have? Of course I find they are all problematic. For this reason the prophesy of Ezekiel is all the more important. He spoke of two witnesses that would reunite Israel and the scattered tribes. The first was a witness from Judah, the Bible. The second comes form Ephraim. Only when these two witnesses come together as one can the confusion of the Christian creeds be resolved, and the fullness of the gospel restored. The testament from the tribe of Ephraim is currently available and is held by the church that bares the only name given under heaven as its title. Christians reject the book because they do not follow God, and do not represent Jesus Christ.

Even the most fervent christians don't take the entire bible literally. Jonah in the whale ,the ark etc. Also Yahweh was a nasty childish angry God having nothing to do with Jesus , his "son" . One can still believe in Jesus without believing the whole bible should be taken literally. Historically most of what is in the old testament was taken from previous gods in antiquity. Virgin births,crucifixions, son of god , etc. All these borrowed from other archaic religions . This is what you can be sure of . Love God Love your neighbor as yourself Love your enemies. This is "All" you need to know about Jesus . You don't need the bible for that . "Love is all there is" "Love is all you need" No need to worship the messenger, instead worship the message. "No man shall see the face of God and live" O.T.

@@leetlbt Just to be clear, Christians were also commanded to be united, have a foundation of prophets and apostles, not sell the word of God or preach for personal profit, have miracles among the true followers, and do all things in his name. Currently, there are 45 thousand different and divided denominations. 900 versions of the English translation. They all preach for profit. They have no miracles, prophets, or apostles, and can't even bring themselves to name their buildings of worship, Jesus Christ. Christianity is not acknowledged by Christ. It is an abomination in his sight. But if you no longer wish to follow man, the fullness of the gospel is available. His church bears His name, it doesn't teach for money, it has the second witness prophesied by Ezekiel, it has miracles, and it is built on a foundation of prophets and apostles.

@createbje8627 Have you considered the fact that the Bibles that have been replicated and accepted as the word of God, as well as, the words of Jesus Christ are marked as “King James Version?” Not only was the Bible edited, there were Chapters that are known to have been completely removed from it. I am, of course, assuming that your reference to “Holy Scripture” is in reference to “The Bible.” While I would like to believe that your comment would be upheld to disallow “change even one letter…” but, that unfortunately was not considered or honored. From the time as a young girl when I first went to church and learned about the Bible, I wondered why King James made it his job to alter it… none of the Bibles are in their original form and do we know every edit he made? Just curious what others think.

The written word can, and has been changed. You can study history and learn when many scriptures were changed to support false doctrine. People who have altered Scripture are cursed according to Scripture.
