Pro tip: for anyone considering this approach, thread lock that nut inside the oil pan for the return line. If it ever backed off you have no access short of pulling the pan. Not a small job when in the car. 👍
@nuisance_carl3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for pointing that out! I definitely wish I put on some loctite. I’m even considering redoing the drain to try and have it higher (and welded)
@yuno33642 жыл бұрын
Pro tip for you ebay kit users, you are not required to run the coolant lines. They help mostly for cutting the car off without a turbo timer. If you sit in your car and let the turbo cool down before cutting it off you will be fine. Been doing that for years without issues.
@nuisance_carl2 жыл бұрын
Yup, I'm actually currently in the process of deleting my turbo water lines. Pretty sure it was contributing to my car running too hot for comfort.

Sorry for 2 comments back to back, I never really gave it much thought about the oil drain for e36 turbo kits. But when I see the setup wow your AN adapters were basically touching on their own! Obviously the best solution is just a top mount setup, but I would be interested in seeing how a scavenge pump would work on this setup too... Also: Remember the turbine housing, compressor housing and center section can all be clocked independent of each other
@nuisance_carl2 жыл бұрын
Yea this drain didn't work and had to resort to a scavenge pump, which worked but I hate them. I'm actually currently redoing my turbo drain completely.

Man it's really nice that you are including all the parts and stuff you're using in the description. Depending on how things go for you with the whole project, I might have to turbo my BMW this coming summer instead of getting a new exhaust manifold/headers (to fix an exhaust leak that just developed there) for how low cost it'll be. Any idea if you'll be able to keep your AC lines with how it is a bottom mount turbo setup? Also what's your plan for the transmission and clutch to handle the extra power, as the stock transmission in the 325i's are pretty weak; swap in an M3 transmission?
@nuisance_carl5 жыл бұрын
I try to help out when I can lol my plan is to keep a/c at all costs. That's actually a big reason why I went bottom mount (even though some have made it work with top mount). The biggest issue for me is getting the intercooler piping and intake around the compressor without going under the subframe. I already have a zf transmission to pair with the motor, and I'll be running a clutchmasters clutch, which I'll be covering in the next video 👍

Since the bolt pattern is symmetrical, yes it can be flipped to be top mount, but the turbo would end up hitting the valve cover. You’d need to make some sort of adaptor. I’ve seen it done, and I’m personally not a fan of it
