E46 Fuel tank fix - breather hose fix.

While removing a fuel tank from an E46 M3 we run into a problem. A vent hose connection snaps and the component are non-serviceable. We come up with a quick, cheap fix to save us from a new tank purchase.

Getting those hoses that are welded to the nipples was a MAJOR BEAR, but I finally got them off. I was extremely careful to pull only in the direction of the nipples, so as not to bend them and break them. Lots and lots of tiny screwdriver and silicon between the tubing and the nipple to break the welds free. Hopefully I will never need to use your DIY... BUT... it is a GREAT one!!!

To get the low angle you needed to get the pipe closer to the tank you could cut off the barb. Then drill out the fitting. Clean it up and solder or silver solder in a piece of 1/4" soft copper pipe. Bend it into the shape you need then solder it in. Same applies to the tank connection on the other side. You could also make a bubble flair on the end of the copper tube to hold the rubber in place more securely.

Yes, you should use fuel hose even though it is just vapors. Nice fix, man!

Thank you I can't find much on yt about the vent lines, Im trying to figure out where the terminate inside the vehicle. So far I can see it going towards the rear passenger seat wall.

I recently dropped the rear subframe on my E46s to refurbish it and change all the bushings as well as replace the rear brake lines. This required dropping the fuel tank and I want to replace some of the brackets while I have access so the tank needs to come out completely. I started to remove the breather hose lines and realized they are on there incredibly tight and I will need to replace them when they come off.

so which hoses are the actual vents? the 2 you repaired? i have a m56 tank but want to convert to a regular tank, and do not need the evap system as i am building a ls drift car. im thinking vent those 2 with rollover valves near the gas filler neck. what is the big hose in between them? does it get capped if im not using evap just venting?

Howdy, this last week I've been preparing for my rear end refresh as well as subframe reinforcement plates. Last night when removing my fuel tank I snapped those three little breather valves, seeing that this video is from a little longer than a year ago. how long did this hold? anything you would have done different? Planning to throw the car together this Thursday, my buddy's going to tig weld in my reinforcements Wednesday. already searched the internet for any contact information for Tenza motorsports but I didn't find anything.

Had the same problem and I blocked those 2 ports thinking the bigger hose will ventilate the whole tank aswell and now the fueltank is not releasing the pressure from the gas vapors. still runs fine but after driving it for a while the pressure in the tank gets hella high tho.
