Rollover Valve Install

Prepping the Chevy K20 for the trip to Moab in a few weeks, and figured I should actually vent the fuel tank, so in this video I install a rollover valve on Goldy!

I would be using a carbon canister & enable purge if your running a “LS” an PCM. This set up will fill the garage with gas fumes. A true roll-over valve is misunderstood and sold for racing only. The valve you need seals the tank when liquid fuel hits it. The aftermarket tanks don’t have a bump on top to trap fuel rich air inside as refueling. The vent side goes into the vent inlet of a carbon canister and holds raw hydrocarbons inside the canister as you paid for it. Most tanks will have a hose connector that can go high inside the bed, make connection to the filler neck. This roll over valve shuts off when liquid gas hits it, forces raw gas to backup into the filler neck and hit the aspirator tube in the pumps nozzle to shut off refueling. Purge goes to engine intakes purge valve. Tank vent inlet is open all of the time until PCM testing, then shut off and close. This feature is disabled for EVAP testing if PCM controller. Best of luck as even changes in the air temp in the garage will cause gas fumes. If you have a gas water heater or gas forced air furnace in the garage, the chance of combustion is there.

My buddy had one of these installed when he went to moab... he managed to trigger it coming down dragons tongue... killed His Jeep in the middle of it 😂

Dave that is a great safety feature that a lot of people forget about. I was planning on adding one to mine and was just going to run it up the frame rail similar to what you have done but hide it in the tail light socket on the Jimmy on the right side and run the axle vent up to the other side!

Regular cap, no door yet.

does this help with a fuel tank that constantly burps when filling up? when the pump cuts off the fuel flow and takes forever to fill your tank?

Technically, but it should fill properly without it.

You want to add a larger hose that T-s into the filler neck. That way it only vents when you pull the cap off. This rollover valve is for different purpose. It’s for tanks that don’t have vented gas caps and for obviously stopping the fuel from coming out the vent tube in case of a roll over.

I have one of these but haven't installed it yet. If it's installed straight up(barb down) then it can draw air or relieve pressure, it doesn't seal off the line until it's upside down.

Have the same question, looking for a 2 way valve that keeps pressure in until a certain amount of psi then either lets air in or out, if it exist (mechanical valve w/o solenoid)

@@mattc9875 I don't know if you ever solved this. Basically you need a pair of pressure relief valves, connected in parallel, and one facing backwards from the other. This is how your radiator cap works, so you can look to that for inspiration.
