I was always wondering why German cars actually have a reputation for reliability and customer satisfaction on par with the Japanese around Europe, but a somewhat lackluster reputation in the US. Maybe it does simply come down to a different American attitude towards maintenance that doesn't work that well with German cars. For example, a Mustang is (for the better AND the worse) just built with a lot more tolerances and thus a lot less perfection, so it can take a bit of neglect much better when it comes to service. P.S.: Please, do service your Mustang properly. Also, ymmv.

IMHO this design on the W211 was classic and timeless and even now when I see one I stop and look. I like the latest shapes now with the more organic shapes but in between nothing looks that good. These are still incredible cars, I gotta buy one !

I have said and always will. All of the Mercedes I’ve ever owned 2001-2009 have been bulletproof mechanical wise. Other than wear and tear items they have lasted. I had an S500 go last 200k miles. Had SLK go near 200k before selling. That’s just some of the MB’s I owned. Most recently had a CLK500 all going with normal maintenance and no mechanical issues. On the other hand I had a C5 Corvette with cooling issues and a Mustang GT with many little parts leaking due to bad seals.

Can bus communication problem with readings implausible. I had car towed to second independent shop after 4 weeks and many$ in diag. Time. New shop tried new key. Wiring harness checked. No water found anywhere .Still goes into limp mode. Any clues ? Shif module discussed and basically back to the beginning after 5 weeks. Recent 100,000 mile service done and new tires . I found a e320 for $3000 a little over a year ago with around 70,000 on it. It's my daily driver and I haven't had a single problem with it. @@POLO-PLAYA that is so cheap, over here a e320 with 70k miles on the clock would be around £5000 but it would also be very rare as people love Mercedes, Audi & BMW diesels so put loads of miles on them.
