I'm shooting for 1k hp street car build I'm going big for the fuel pumps and injectors. Iron block 6.0L single turbo. Twin Walbro 450 LPH - E85 and Gas pumps. I was told by my tuner that he can dial back on how much fuel pumps ti each injector. I'd rather have to much fuel on the day of tuning on the dyno than not have enough and waste time. So from my experience I would say stick with what you have and not worry to much. Kind of hard for anyone I think to tell you exactly what you need. Base it off other similar builds and go from there. Just go big and dial back as needed. As always love the build even though I'm a Camaro guy...that guy.

1200hp crank x bsfc .91 -1092 divided by number injectors / 8- 136.5# per injector or x 10.5 for 1433.25cc injectors divided by 80% injector duty cycle -1791.56 cc Prob w running 3 pumps is you "must" have a great fuel safety strategy ecm ...or toast an engine when a pump fails. If you let sit 3 months w e85...replace fuel system. Need full stainless injectors, cleaned or replaced often. Flex fuel setup so you can "pickle" fuel system when not dd.

Awesome to hear that you're in IT. I have been a software engineer for 9 years. And out work work I enjoy building things with my hands. Personally I feel like if you can build something well that exists physically then it's easy to build software that doesn't exist physically. My coworkers probably think I'm weird since I don't just go home and watch tv. I'm usually out working on some project.

BSFC is application specific. Base Specific fuel consumption An NA (naturally aspirated) is lower than a turbo and inverse Gas is lower than e85 and inverse An E85 turbo has a range of .75-.91 depending on too many factors but keep simple...how efficient it uses the fuel. An NA Gas has a BSFC of .51-.64 honda vs the 454 as example

I run the same tank in my notchback (complete termi swap) with 3/320 pumps in a fore hat, I ran a Hobbs switch so that I only use 1pump when cruising around and when the boost starts rolling in the other 2 kick on. I run twin 58/58 precisions. You may want to consider a meth kit. I run denatured alcohol spraying through 2-750 nozzles and my iats were 1 degree cooler than ambient on the dyno and it keeps the injector duty cycle down also. I use id1000's but 110 octane all day everyday!!

You might want to think about a Gearvenders overdrive unit for the car for highway/drag use, they can handle a lot of hp and makes the car more friendly to drive $ gas wise. There might be a Power Tour in your future! Sounds like the car will handle it. The half and full mile race is on my bucket list as well.

Th400 with 3.08:1 diff and it's good to go on a 28-29.5 tire. That's the combo we run and the cars gets down in the 1/8 , 1/4 and roll racing. We run a 2 gear 1/8 lol..... cruising on the highway 70-75 mph is nice and easy. We have ran it up to 190+ roll racing and it was good to go.

Good luck with the new setup, I personally would have stayed with the belt drive stuff for your application. If space was the only issue you can pick up a cable drive and move the pump to the rear of the car. I'm very much against multi-pump setups.

+The Fab Forums Pumps fail, and you are relying on to many of them to keep your engine well fed. All it takes is one of those pumps to not be able to keep up and your fuel pressure will fall off, the engine will lean out, and it snowballs from there. With a single electric pump (even with a voltage booster) if it doesn't work, the car just won't start.

Im assuming you are using fuel injectors, so to calculate your maximum fuel volume just assume each injector is going to run at 110% duty cycle and take that volume times it by the number of injectors you have and there is your total fuel volume needed with a safety factor
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah but injectors are rated in lbs vs lph and those ratings change as the fuel pressure changes. Plus I will probably run way more injector then I will ever need. 160# ers
@MuCk0994
@MuCk0994 8 жыл бұрын
you look at your max fuel pressure under boost. There would be a data sheet for your injector that would either show mass or volume per minute or second and then you just need to do some calculators to convert it to what you need to compare your AN line size and also the fuel pumps needed. When i build fuel systems i want to be able to use the maximum i can get out of the injector in its best dynamic range with a safety factor but without going overboard.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+MuCk0994 I did some calulations and it looks like 160# injectors can flow a max of 1280 lbs per hour. The conversion to LPH is 806. Looks like a may need all three pumps.

Good stuff as always... I'm pretty sure you had enough for 1000hp on pump gas with 2 of the 320's and moderate boost pressure (15-20 PSI). Start pushing the pressure up and you'd been needing that other pump . So for e85 you'll definitely be getting into the other pump.. Proper setup for a badass street/ strip Grey Ghost. 👻

Sir. Please help. I Googled, research cant find any answer until i found your video. My motorcycle fuel pump’s wire is spliced from the regulator. Do you recommend replacing/making your own same gauge wire with leads on both ends? Or just wrapping it with heat shrink? My worry is if i leave the spliced wire exposed gas tank might explode?? THANK YOU.

It doesn't causes shortage by E85??As when you actually spliced the power and also spliced ground in an intake with regular butt connector. Am nervous as doing regular butt butt connector and planning on use E85. Kinda nervous !

Internal swirl pot ? or is it already in the tank ?Make a 8" tall bucket for these pumps to go in when you only have 1" of fuel in the tank and you stand in it and it all surges to the back of the tank the bucket will keep those pumps wet for a while just one or 2 1/8th holes to let the fuel in.. the return line from the rail should keep the bucket overflowing until its go time . you can probably happily run one pump most of the time

Im guessing you are running a intake referenced fuel regulator? Then you also have to think about when you are under boost that is added to the fuel pressure. when you increase the fuel pressure the flow decreases. Btw just fount this channel, great stuff! even though i only own saabs :) but they also run e85 and turbos, but only one turbo and four cylinders :)

turbo is the perfect way to have mild and wild , you can basicly use a stock cam have normal torque at low rpm and depending on youre boost normal to verry wild at higher rpm was thinking of a single 400 lpm pump but considering 2 smaller ones as its a bit eazier to limp home on one pump ,,, does make stuff dangerous when one pump cuts out at full trottle and run the engine lean immediately , might be wize to run a pressure sensor cutout system to cut the ignition as soon as the fuelpressure at the fuel rail comes below a certan treshold the three pumps prolly draw quite a few amps , are you going to run them staged ? some efi systems can do that based on a/f ratio intake pressure and rpm was thinking on running sets of injector per pump too (running 2 times 3 on a 6 inine ) that way i would know when a pump has quit and have a bit more flow , might not be a good idea as any differences in flow between pump one and two for watever reason messes up the tune on the whole motor
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+watahyahknow I probably will do some kind of staged setup with each one having its own relay. I may run one for normal driving and have the other two come on under boost. I figured my fuel consumption and I will really only need two pumps unless I really turn it up, so maybe with the three under boost I have a fail safe in case one starts to fail.
@belloautomotive1522
@belloautomotive1522 8 жыл бұрын
Will you be doing a pump and e85 mix or straight e85? should look into a flex fuel sensor. Best of both worlds. If you can't find e85 or are stuck somewhere and need fuel to get home fill up on pump and you can tune for less timing and boost with certain pump and ethanol mixtures. I'm not sure if big stuff is compatiable or not but just some food for thought
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+BlueCollarDreams I have thought about that and I could easily have two tuneups in the bigstuff and just switch it over if need.

You could also throw a can of Torco in it if you need to limp it home on pump gas. The Torco with 93 should net you a decent enough octane rating to not have to worry just don't beat on it.

Take your base fuel pressure...add your target boost pressure....example. 43.5psi at 20# boost....you will have a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator ....you need 1800cc per injector at 63.5psi fuel pressure at 80% duty cycle.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+Toby Head (Power Glide Supra) I dont think you can add the extra 20 psi of fuel pressure to the equation. Its there to equal boost pressure..not add extra flow.
@turbosupra2jzdragracingtob249
@turbosupra2jzdragracingtob249 8 жыл бұрын
+The Fab Forums Idk what you mean. When you run a boosted application you use a boost referenced FPR -vacuum off MAP. Under boost it raises your fuel pressure by your MAP/boost pressure. If not? GL
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+Toby Head (Power Glide Supra) you are correct. When running a boost referencing fuel reg it does raise the pressure based on map pressure. BUT 10 psi of boost will apply 10 psi of back pressure on the bottom of the injector...also applying 10 psi of back pressure on the fuel system once the injector opens. The extra fuel pressure just negates the boost pressure there fore it should not be used in calculating fuel consumption or hp.
@turbosupra2jzdragracingtob249
@turbosupra2jzdragracingtob249 8 жыл бұрын
+The Fab Forums "fuel pressure negates boost pressure" Wowsers. Lol. Your turbos must suck. Lol
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+Toby Head (Power Glide Supra) dude you can think what ya want, It doesnt make a shit to me. You are just making your self sound ignorant. Boost referencing regulators are not meant to increase fuel delivery they are just simply made to increase the fuel pressure to match the back pressure the boost will cause.
@beverlyweatherly5036

lot of factors come into play when calculating fuel needs, adequate size feed, return, rails, etc.. With a -10 feed, -8 return, good rails and regulator with100lb injectors, 2 walbro 400's will support around 900 wheel at 100% duty cycle on 80% e85 running out of injector. Your on the right track with the 3 pumps. I don't know what size injector you plan on running but make'm big or add a 4th pump. why not just go with that monster aeromotive pump that will flow 2000 HP that comes with the voltage reg. ? Little pricey but there would be no ?'s that it would handle what you needed and wouldn't have to worry about a bad relay not turning a pump on when under 20psi.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 7 жыл бұрын
I have an Aeromotive belt driven pump that will support 2000hp...just ran out of room under the hood. There is no single electric pump that can support what I need under boost and handle lots of street driving. You have to go with multiples.

Have you been able to gather any info on how durable the belt driven set up would have been on the street longterm from anyone who has done it already? I plan on running a belt drive set up for my twin turbo e85 build on the street 90% of the time and maybe 10% track. Thanks

+The Fab Forums Cool, I've had a few guys not recommend running a belt driven set-up on the street long term. Your comment makes me feel better about running it now. I'm running the magnafuel Outlaw 750 belt drive pump with e85.

How much power will someone see with the walbro 450lph in take fuel pump and stock lines in a foxbody?
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 6 жыл бұрын
depends on if its boosted or nitrous. The stock lines are only good to around 550hp I think. If you are introducing fuel somewhere else (like through a nitrous nozzle then you can make more)

Why e85?? Am I missing something, it seems like there's less power? Does that fall under the top fuel dragster idea where more fuel is more coolant?
@RecklessRegal
@RecklessRegal 8 жыл бұрын
+jake johnston E85 will make more power, it just takes more fuel to do so.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
You can make way more power with e85 out of the pump vs any other gas out of the pump. It also has a cooling effect as it evaporates, but as mentioned it takes a lot more fuel volume.

Just curious why you went this route compared to using the stock tank with a surge tank?
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 8 жыл бұрын
+Derek T well I am using a stock tank. The setup you are referring to needs an in tank pump and external pump and the surge tank which all cost more then the setup here plus the external pumps tend to overheat on long drives
@derekt5216
@derekt5216 8 жыл бұрын
+The Fab Forums that's cool. I've seen some surge tanks that use pumps inside the surge tank itself... something like radium engineering makes. not sure if it would have been cheaper or not, but then you could use the original fox tank and filler neck. lots of ways to skin a cat, but that's a pretty cool pump hanger assembly that you chose.

We just finished a single turbo coyote swap in an RX7 (FC) and we are running a built 8.8 with 3.08:1 gear set and the car loves it. We went that route so we could drag and roll race and the car loves the combo so far. As soon as we build the bottom end we'll turn the wick up to 20#'s and let it eat. The car ran a modded viper night before last and the GPS speedo stopped at 155 mph and we pulled a pretty good ways past that. E85 and turbos make for some tough street rides for sure. Keep us posted on the build.
