I love that you have access to the aircraft. People walking around and filming big thundering warbirds as they taxi and run up. Of course there are marshals there to keep you safe, but in Australia they would be fenced in and no-one allowed within. I hope you keep that relaxed and accessible feel.

The DC-3 is one awesome plane. For my reunion with my fellow Paratroopers in my unit whom the last time I saw them was 29 years ago I got to jump out of one. The DC-3/C-47 I jumped out of was a Navy transport made in 1941 and survived the war. It was a privilege and an honor to parachute out of a plane that old. Now I know how the old WWII Paratroopers felt like jumping out of it during training and in combat. Majority of my jumps were made from modern aircraft like the C-130, C-141, CH-47 Chinook helicopter, UH-60 Helicopter, and the UH-1 Bell helicopter. The DC-3/C-47 was the most awesome experience leaping out into the sky and falling down to earth. It was a blast!

Guys, I love your videos! You made me homesick. Did you know that during the week of the EAA, the Oshkosh airport becomes the busiest airport in the WORLD? A lot of the "over-flow" planes land in my hometown airport, or cornfield, 20 miles south, in Fond du Lac. I first attended EAA with my family, i'm guessing over 50 years ago. It was much smaller, but my dad loved roaming among all of the planes.and being able to crawl through most of them. All of the pilots are all so happy to talk about their planes. Thanks for sharing your experience there this year. I felt like I was there with you.

You won't believe what happened today in Chicago. One of the planes from this show flying back to Cleveland OH had an emergency landing on Lake Shore drive. Its a two passenger blue with yellow wings plane. His engine began losing power and the pilot did a mayday call stating he only had 30% engine power landing in the midst of traffic flying under a walkway bridge, a Harrison Ford maneuver, with no one hurt in the plane or cars! God is good!!

I first attended the "fly-in" when it was in Rockford Illinois. I grew up watching the Red Devils with Gene Soucy, Tom Poberezny and Charlie Hillard. And lets not forget the immortal R.A. "Bob" Hoover. I actually teased Bob about who cleans the grass stains off his plane. He laughed and said if he put them there he should clean them himself. That was a great time to be 10 years old.

Hey, I was there, too! Stayed in a big RV that a friend rented. Man, it is the biggest camping event ever... and I think there were a few planes around, too. I took a ride in one of the Trimotors. A friend did the $2600 hour long Mustang ride... he said it was epic, something you'd never forget. I'm jelly. I wish I had that coin to drop!

Most hotel rooms are booked years in advance. Rv'ng (or sleeping in the back seat of my 182) are some of the few choices available. I slept under the wing one year and fed the entire mosquito population. One of the greatest sights each summer. Everyone should attend.

Great to see Jim Tobul's F4U-4 #416 flying again...I was at Columbia, SC Nov.10, 2002, when it crashed, sad day, RIP Joe Tobul...then I was set to see it again post-restoration at Peachtree-Dekalb airport near Atlanta,circa=2014 or so,(can't remember if it was 2013,14,15....), but unfortunately, it flipped on landing at arrival in a crosswind...so I didn't get to see it. Maybe again someday soon.... I know it was a Korean War veteran, and had some actual combat damage repairs. I do wonder how much of it is original(pre-2002 crash), or is it essentially a new aircraft with 416's identity now?....

Great video! Brought back so many memories of when I was at the show in 1990. No where near as large as now but we had some great exhibits; the stealth fighters, the B-17, a Lockheed Constellation, the Concord and of course, lots of war birds. My favorite was when I got to fly a Ford Tri-motor around Lake Winnebago. Paid $80 to fly as the co-pilot, took control once we cleared 500 feet until we got below 500 feet on final. I wonder what it would cost now. Thanks.

I was interested to see the Mosquito; my step-Granddad worked on them after he'd worked on Hurricanes and Spitfires in 1940. In 1942 he got gobby with a foreman and he found himself in the Royal Fusiliers inside three months! In the village where I live, a B-17 crashed on a row of cottages and I can remember an old chap having some of the glass from a gun turret as a green-house. In the next village is the grave of two USN aircrew. They were learning AI radar use but their Identification Friend or Foe beacon broke down and they were shot down by anti-aircraft fire. The grave is tended lovingly by the villagers and the flowers are beautiful. I believe that the ground in which the poor lads are buried was given to the USA so that they could rest in American soil. Many members of my family never came home from WWI or WWII and I hope that those who have graves are cared for just as well.

The videos dont do those old warbird engines justice. To a camera, and thus to youtube, the engines sound like they're put-put-puttering. Oohhh no.... Those engines, my friends, are *rumbling* with power. They sound angry. They sound wholesome. They sound powerfull. They sound ready to be pushed to the breaking point, and that full throttle is a walk in the park for them. And when they roar by for takeoff, especially the bombers, it is an experience to remember.

Never been to Oshkosh, but many an airshow here in Wichita, most of them held at McConnell AFB. When I saw Doc, I was so happy to see 'him' traveling now! I was priviledged to to get inside this aircraft when it first arrived to Wichita for restoration, and got many pics inside. I was a volunteer at the KS Aviation Museum, (the old Wichita Municipal Airport), and Doc was being restored in a hangar at the Boeing side. However, my 2 favorite's are that P-51 Mustang, and of course, the Stearman! Been flying in a Stearman twice!! That was awesome!
