Like I mentioned, the College Football Playoff Rankings came out after I recorded this video. As such, we now know teams like South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Miami are pretty much locked out of the playoffs with Alabama being the team primed to get in. I understand where the committee was coming from, but I'd like to hear what you guys think about their decision.

I think that I would’ve preferred Miami or SC because I’m tired of seeing Bama, especially after controversially making it last year, but I get it. Do think it’d be worse though if SMU loses and bama still gets in. The Oklahoma loss is terrible and the Vandy one isn’t good either

You're dead wrong, the 1 seed is absolutely better than the 5. It's easier to take down one heavyweight than two playoff teams back to back, not to mention the fact that not having to play an additional game gives you an advantage the further you go. That's just the objective take there, anyone who says otherwise are seriously underselling the 12 and 4 seeds.

Oregon would be a massive home favorite over ASU/ISU. Not crazy to think the extra tune up game could prove beneficial. Not to mention, Boise would be a far easier 2nd round opponent than likely Ohio State.

I see where you’re coming from but Oregon would almost surely be double digit favorites over both teams. I know they only beat Boise by 3, but that was week 2 when people didn’t fully understand how to game plan for Jeanty. It’s really a matter of preference, but I can understand Oregon wanting to secure the 1 seed to give themselves a breather and reset.

@RioWatchesYT Winning two games against high-quality opponents is far harder than winning one against a slightly better opponent. The gap isn't that big. Oregon themselves are the only team that genuinely looks far superior to the rest of the field. Not Georgia, not Tennessee, not Ohio State.

I think some definitely will be, Boise state for example, is screwed if they don’t win theirs. I really think the committee is going to apply it to the P4 schools, and more specifically, the Big 10 and SEC tbh. Wouldn’t be fair to let in Alabama for example over an SEC team that makes the SEC championship and loses.

I think there’s something to be said about when they played though. Oregon played Boise State week 2, when the world hadn’t seen just how good Ashton Jeanty was going to be. Now that teams are figuring out they can stack the box to slow him down a little, they’re having extremely tight, one possession games against teams like Nevada and Wyoming. They definitely aren’t a bad team, but I think a lot of teams would be salivating if they got them in the 2nd round

I’m pretty nervous for them if I’m being honest. ASU or ISU will more than likely be double digit dogs to whoever the 5 seed is. Boise proved they can hang with the big boys after Oregon, but I think a powerhouse team that has a full week solely focused on preparing for Ashton Jeanty, is going to be able to handle him. I think Maddux Madsen is going to have to carry a bigger work load than usual, but I’m interested to see what he can do because he is a solid QB by all means

I don't like 3 loss teams in the playoffs. Even Alabama should stay home. Miami and SMU are more deserving. Syracuse is really underrated team, and is a tough team. The problem with the Big 12 schools were they lost to Kansas, Houston and Texas Tech that either UNLV or Washington State beat, and Boise beat both UNLV and Washington State.

I feel for Miami fans but I have to say, I see where the committee is coming from. If Miami were let in over Alabama, we would never see strong out of conference games again. It would be a clear indicator that record is the only thing that matters, and lead teams to creating the weakest schedules imaginable.

@@RioWatchesYT The G5 are afraid to play Boise State OOC to play games in the regular season. Last P5 now 4 that played in Boise was Oklahoma State that Boise loss by 3. Before that, Boise State hosted Florida State and beat them. Boise State is 3-1 against Oregon, 1-0 against Oklahoma, 1-0 against Georgia, 1-0 against Arizona, 1-1 against Arizona State, 8-5 against BYU, 0-2 vs UCF, 1-0 against Florida State, 1-1 against Georgia, 1-0 against Iowa State, 1-1 against Louisville, 1-0 vs Oklahoma, 0-2 against Okie State, 5-4 against Oregon State, 2-0 vs SMU, 2-2 vs TCU, 4-0 vs Utah, 1-1 vs Virginia, 1-0 vs Virginia Tech, 2-4 vs Washington, 2-5 vs Washington State. There were games that they did play against SEC, Big 10 and ACC schools that they only loss a single game, but they are usually very competitive. That is the record they have when they were in the Big West, WAC and MWC. If they come in right now into the Big 12? They would be like TCU and Utah as a threat to win the conference in their first year. UCF, Cincinnati, Utah and BYU were in the same spot Boise State is in when they get attacked for no reasons but for being one of the better teams that wins their games.

Re the SMU, Clemson, Bama scenario, I firmly believe most people are looking at the wrong comparison if Clemson wins. Most people are arguing SMU vs Bama, but, the actual question is the Clemson vs Bama comparison. Where does Clemson get ranked if they win? I suspect they would either be the 12th seed (ranked 14-15th) or maybe even the 3rd or 4th seed (but still with a ranking of 12 at best) By my estimation, at worse, they would have to be ranked 11(with both the B12 champ or MW champ ranked above them) for SMU to have a chance. In other words, If Clemson ultimately gets ranked behind Bama, then SMU is out. Otherwise, the committee would have to ignore the ACC championship game by ranking SMU above Clemson. With Clemson's ranking at 17, and the relative comparisons of Clemson to the teams ranked above them, I don't see how the committee moves them up the 6 or 7 spots necessary to create room for SMU. Rightly or wrongly, the committee has signaled their decision that the ACC is only getting one playoff team. One final comment, if chaos occurs this weekend with UNLV, and Clemson winning and with the current rankings of the two B12 championship teams, You could easily have a situation where there are two, if not three teams out of the top 12 in the playoffs.

heres the thing. it seems like h2h (head to head) only matters for the big brands like Alabama, Clemson etc. Because Alabama beat South Carolina, they are ahead of the Gamecocks. Which makes sense except for when it only matters for the brand schools. Yes Alabama beat South Carolina, but the Gamecocks beat Clemson. So if H2H matters, and Clemson beats SMU, than either the Gamecocks are in the playoffs, (ahead of Clemson), or Clemson is out of the playoffs (Behind the Gamecocks).

I don’t believe the committee will leave group of 5 teams like Boise State unpunished for losing their conference championship. They were unlucky to have a weak schedule, but if they lose, they’ll have 2 losses and the 86th ranked SOS. I can’t see a scenario where the committee would let them in over a 3 loss Alabama or a 2 loss SMU.

If it were a committee of just me, no team in its conference championship would lose a top 12 spot barring some ridiculous blowout. The championship game would be strictly benefit or nothing. Unfortunately, the committee has historically dropped teams that lose in that game. Plus, small conference teams always have to deal with the strength of schedule issue. I agree with it to an extent, but not to the extent others take it. If Boise State were, say, 8 or higher I would be more comfortable. Being ranked 11 means do NOT leave it up to the committee. Handle UNLV, take your playoff spot. Frankly, I don't think SMU is safe either for the same reason.

Boise lost the game to Oregon, anyone who has a pulse knows they had it won. There is no easy road in my opinion, remember who some of these teams lost to that were double digit favorites. Ask Michigan, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Kansas

So just 1 year ago the country cried that no matter how much better Alabama had gotten, and how much better they were playing above Texas, they did not deserve to go over Texas due to that 1 game loss to Texas. Even though it was the first start for Milroe. Now 1 year later, you and many like you are crying how South Carolina is the team who deserves to go, even though Alabama beat them heads up? See the hypocrisy in this? If it was t good enough last year for o move Alabama ahead of Texas in the rankings, you can’t do it this year either! And if you have teams who play 5 top 25 teams with 3 losses vs teams with playing NO BODY High School’s, and having 2 losses, don’t think that it’s strange if the committee goes with the teams who’s played the harder schedules. But if you have a 1 loss team who’s player the schedule of nobody’s like SMU, who losses to the one ranked team they played, and then they lose to a 3 loss not very good team in the Championship, they don’t deserve to go. Totally agree. There should be no Big 10 teams in the playoffs, except for perhaps Oregon, but even they are undeserving since they only beat Ohio State by 1 at home. Penn State and Indiana both lost to Ohio State so clearly they are completely undeserving. Ohio State is clearly worse than Michigan who is out of the playoff picture. So only SEC teams (6) and Notre Dame, Boise State, SMU, Miami, and South Carolina deserve to be in at this point. You make total sense.
