Eamon & Bec the peeps you met up with seemed cool and fun to hang with. You all seemed like you had a kick ass time. Wish I was there with you. The weather there seemed good to me considering the heat wave we’ve had here in the states. It’s been killer hot out. I look forward to your next vid of Ireland. I’ve always wanted to go there and Scotland, but anywhere in Europe would be great to visit. Keep up what you do and thank you for sharing. I’m always watching your new vids and glad I subscribed two years ago.

Telll me about the plastic! 😫 It’s hasn’t always been this way in the UK. I’m 40 and have lived here all my life. In the 80/ 90s we still had a lot of small independent specialist stores (green grocers, bakeries, etc). The proliferation of big supermarkets has meant many of these small stores closing down and also a general move away from town centres (“the British High Street”) to out of town shopping in supermarkets (and shopping malls). The little shops you could rock up with your own bags and get just what you needed. Back 20 /30 years ago loose produce was readily available in supermarkets too, so you could pick up just one apple if all you wanted was * just one apple* (not a pre-wrapped, arbitrary 6 pack). We moved to the Highlands of Scotland 15 years ago (after vanlifing and WWOOFing for a while) because things in a small Highland town were a couple decades behind in terms of ‘development’ ((and community), but in those years we’ve seen the town go from just a medium sized ethical groceries store , no large supermarket and lots of small shops to one. with a struggling high street, many closures, empty units and three large supermarkets on the peripheries of town selling ever more limited selections of produce and products.
@Spazza424 жыл бұрын
The reason large supermarkets do so well in Britain is because the majority of people want to get everything they need from one place, rather than 5 different places - even if those smaller places offer higher quality goods. A lot of people cry about the high street dying off, yet everybody buys stuff off Amazon, eBay or Craigslist because of availability. Shops on the high street have limited stock and usually have to order things in for you anyway, meaning your waiting time on an item is the same but you have to physically go to the shop twice when you could just have it posted to your front door. I haven’t even brought up the problem of parking a vehicle in Britain yet either. The only practical way to save the high street is to make that the better experience again. No one is going to go to a store when it’s easier, cheaper and quicker to buy the same thing online. The bottom line is always convenience and being able to save money where you can. The only way to protect the high street is to tax and penalise online distributors. Any company that earns over 70-80% of their revenue via online sales should be taxed more aggressively as a result, you’d suddenly find that Titan companies like Amazon would have to open up physical stores like Argos where they sell all of their products available on with Prime delivery (like their AmazonBasics range). Companies can easily dodge taxes legally by having their Headquarters set up somewhere with a lower tax bracket. Cafe Nero is a perfect example as their Headquarters used to be on the Isle of Man (I know that because I live here) yet we’ve never actually had a store on island. They got the benefit of 0% business tax just by stating their residency here. As soon as that got questioned locally, they moved it to London. Unfortunately the Government doesn’t actually care about the high street, if they did they’d put legislation together to protect it. As an individual, the best way to keep the high street around is to use it and give your money to the shops you want to support, physically and ethically. Money talks.

Trust me when I say that many of us in the UK are fighting the plastic wrap situation. We are doing it in various ways, like shopping at farm shops, unwrapping the goods once paid for and handing it back to the supermarkets, creating bulk buy co-operatives that source food that is packaged minimally and sharing it out to the co-operative members, who come and pick the food stuff up in re-usable storage boxes/bottles/mason jars, etc, organic veg boxes, direct from small holders. Yes our country is obsessed with shrink wrapping and bagging everything, but there is change coming. :)

Well welcome to Europe. Fuel is expensive compared to CA or US in Europe and so is shopping for food in supermarkets across Europe. Plastic is used for conserving the freshness of produce and fruit and is used on organic fruit and produce a lot in Europe because they are not sprayed with chemicals to preserve freshness, the plastic helps the food stay fresh longer. And yes everything is smaller in Europe compared to CA and US😊

Those rock walls are also common here in Norway. The rocks come from the fields, when they made fields to grow grass, they had to take out alt the rocks, and they made walls with them. Here there are no problem with finding rocks, a yearly task is to pick rocks from the fields so the can plant more grass or other crops

Oh my goodness so much great content! Just subscribed to two new channels, thanks for th heads up! I can't believe the next episode has the happy pear duo! It was watching your videos that made vegan lifestyle seem norm and I couldn't have transitioned without the handsome irish twins! I live for their recipes, they are my staples, so simple and divine, plus you got to love those accents! Can't wait for more of your trip in europe. Victoria, Scotland x

Your workouts are really paying off! Can you do a video detailing what you do and how long you dedicate to workouts? I’m interested to see what’s working for you and compare!

Hundreds of thousands of UK motorists take their vehicles to the continent (mainland Europe) each year where the locals drive on the right hand side of the road. Having done it myself numerous times, there is no issue with having the steering wheel on the opposite side!
