I’m disappointed that you didn’t tell people that those candles can actually burn them. They are dangerous and a waste of money

@@drjent3350 There have been several cases of people literally burning their ear canals and eardrums, I am even surprised you didn't stopped your patient.

O come on Suzanne. It's not hid job to teach ppl that water is wet, fire is hot, & knives are sharp. Such obvious things don't need to be said bc its abundantly clear that candles can obv burn u. Accidents can happen with everything, but if its done right, it won't burn u. Therefore, not a good argument. U can get into an accident on the road, but u still drive dont u? Just sayin.

@@jessica.santillo "abundantly clear" yet a lot of morons believes ear candles works. Which is incredibly sad. Not many are intelligent enough to know the truth.

Thanks Dr J, I’m a pharmacist and I have lots of calls for ear candles,I do keep them in the store but will always tell them I don’t recommend their usage. I’m glad to know that you don’t discourage their use but I well tell them that studies show they don’t work for ear wax. Some people won’t use modern medicine but instead insist on a holistic approach.

You could stock medical grade olive oil? This can soften dry skin in the ear (awfully common as we age) and also discourage cotton bud use which can cause wax impaction. The oil help keep wax soft and can often assist the conveyor belt motion that is our ear’s incredible self cleaning function!

❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️Dear Dr J, there is a thread on a recent video about the vagus or Arnold’s nerve reflex where your viewers are commenting that they are experiencing coughing while cleaning their ears. This stopped me in my tracks. Growing up we were told “nothing in your ear except your elbow” (impossible, that is the point) and I am hoping you will see this and talk about Q-tipping again. So much can happen…not just wax impaction, I don’t have to tell you! Please reiterate and also, my ENT told me no water in my ears ever! Is that correct everyone or just those with certain diagnoses? Thank you for your videos!!

I've always been suspicious of ear candling, even though I'm extremely open to natural medicine. I wonder what your thoughts are, Dr J, about garlic and mullein oil drops for treating ear infections. I was also skeptical about this but recently used these drops after getting extremely sick; Flu A led to pneumonia and acute otitis media in my right ear (something I've been battling since childhood, nothing new). I took a round of doxycycline forb the pneumonia which helped, but did Zero for the OM. So, I did some rounds of garlic mullein oil and was pretty amazed that they helped almost immediately. Pain and was reduced! And I was finally able to "pop" my ear after about a week. As a lifelong ENT pt, I'm so glad I found your channel! Those UK audiologist guys are great but they're also drama queens 😂

Thanks for the comment! So sorry you got ill. Middle ear infections are common with URI’s but in general a topical drop won’t do much for a middle ear infection unless there is a hole in the eardrum. I am not familiar with the garlic drops but glad it worked for you! Best Wishes!

@drjent3350 Thanks, Dr. J. I have been in some natural health parenting groups for quite some time and I don't always agree with some of the treatments (colloidal silver, homeopathy etc) but some of these moms have been using garlic and mullein oil for their kids' ear infections. I never bought into it until I didn't know what else to do since I already took antibiotics. Was pleasantly surprised with the results. I need to find a new ENT, mine retired. This stuff has Mullein Flower, garlic bulb, calendula flower and St John's Wort. I know not to put anything in the ear if the eardrum is perforated. I actually have hearing loss in my right ear from scarring from all of the times it perforated. Sorry, I digress, I've always been interested in "ear stuff" since I've had lifelong ear issues.

Can the patient actually feel the wax being sucked out?

Most of the time you hear it more than you feel it when using suction. If it is attached to the ear canal wall then you will feel it when it comes off. It is very tolerable!

@@Thi-Nguyen something to consider - many people are resolving their migraines by following the carnivore way of eating. If you want to watch videos from people sharing their experiences - Dr. Shawn Baker Podcast youtube channel. There's also the Stanton Migraine Protocol from Angela Stanton (who used to suffer with migraines...interestingly, the protocol calls for low carb eating).

@@Thi-Nguyen Stanton explains why low carb is important. Carnivore is a whole other level, though. Plants contain toxins that affect humans, even the edible plants. All of that is explained on carnivore channels. You can do whatever you want with this info, but people should know it's out there.

@@w1975b Honey, after dealing with my migraine syndrome since I was four years old (I’m 51 now), I’ve tried entirely too many things to go over in a simple social media convo. I’ve worked with so many specialists and nutritionists; conventional and traditional medicine practitioners along with holistic practitioners. And don’t get me started on the medications, piercings, manual manipulation techniques, CBT, yoga, etc…
