@@jennetyazmyradova4234 People who don't have the luxury of Perfect Pitch have the alternative for Relative Pitch, which in my opinion is just as great.

Learning to play by ear is so rewarding and satisfying! Sure I can look up the tabs and just play, but that's boring to me.. One day I was just listening to a song with a clear melody and just grabbed my guitar and started playing random notes. Aand pretty soon those notes coming from my guitar matched with the melody of the song. It got me super excited and I've practiced like this for 3 months(2 years in total though) and I've learned way more than just by playing along the tutorials. If you took the time to read this, thank you : )

You made this really simple for anyone to get started. I think the paralysis by analysis applies to all areas of life. We make things more complicated than it needs to be, especially when we are just starting out. I find these videos helpful, even though I have been doing this a while.

As a consideration, please look for other background music that doesn't involve snapping or sharp sounds (even though the volume was low). It was quite distracting, thinking that my speakers were going or it was a weird mouth moisture noise (for those of us with misophonia).

Hi, I'm trying to get the notes and chords(one chord) for a tune (in my alarm clock - wake up to music), called Day by Day. I have the tune but I need to see it played on the guitar (fretboard). Trying to learn the individual notes and chords. Is there a more efficient way for a beginner than just trying to piece it together on the fretboard? Thanks :-)
@rohitumbrani6623 жыл бұрын
I don't know how, but I was able to get the first and second bass notes within seconds of hearing them. This is coming from a person who's been playing the guitar for only three years with absolutely no ear training whasoever. I don't know how I did it.

You're the best teacher in the internet! Keep it up. By the way, I signed for the Fretboard Freedom and it's been almost 7 days. Still didn't recieve it and I am desperate. I will be waiting. Well another question: Do I need to practise tabs to be able to make my own arrangements? Because I can't find tabs which match my difficulty.
@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy5 жыл бұрын
email me at nathan@beyondtheguitar.com with the email address you used to sign up and I'll get you the training. It definitely should've already sent automatically, sorry about that. Thanks for the kind words. What do you mean by practice tabs?

But I don't really hear the bass note easily. The note I hear most is pretty much always the highest note. I can figure out the bass note, but it feels more like an instinctual thing, trying to think of the lowest note in the chord I hear. I don't "hear" it per se from my ears, I'm not able to isolate it's sound easily or quickly, but my brain figures it out from the chord if that makes sense, and then I'm able to hear it with my ears.

I Struggled with the simple identification between minor and major chords, until I learned a simple trick.The problem with defaulting to playing different options on your instrument to determine whether a chord is major or minor is that you aren’t really training your mind or your ear to identify the different sound and emotion, immediately by listening. It may be useful to work out the proper harmony of the chord by playing both versions and deciding which sounds the best, but that isn’t going to help you improvise on the fly, nor are you really learning the audible difference between the two harmonies. It is much more useful and fundamental to simply listen to the chord and ask yourself, it is happy or sad? If it is happy it is major. If it is sad, then it is minor.

this is you hearing the chords, but what if we hearing the melody, I think we should build up from the melody not the chords

Again I'm sorry to mention this but you use it so often.. things are not built OFF notes. We build on things. the thing you build on is a foundation that's why we use the preposition ON. A chord is built on a note just like your house is built ON foundations or the statue outside in your garden stands ON a plinth. They are not built off and *_specially_* they are not built off of.
