Rhett and Link have never come off as homophobic or queerbaiting to me. They’re two straight friends who are leaning into a joke that their fans have made. We all know that they are straight, married, and not interested in each other romantically. When they cuddle or do something homoerotic, it’s funny because as Link said “There are no stakes.”.

That audio of Rhett having the talk with his son was actually so heartwarming. As someone who never had the talk with their parents (not really their fault, it’s something I’ve never been comfortable talking about with anyone), it was amazing to hear such an honest yet funny conversation between a genuinely curious child and a parent who recognizes the need to teach their child not to be embarrassed about such a topic.

I'm honestly happy about the non romantic friendship and love representation. It's hard for guys to be able to open up in that way to other guys because of a stigma that it must mean they want to hook up. Rhett discussing the evolution of his sexuality is something I will never forget! Truly vulnerable to admit something that most men would not think to ever mention. Rhett validating those feelings and being content with who is and appreciating femininity in all of its forms was beautiful. Right down to the vulnerability of admitting to your friends that you _really_ love them (It's easy to say you love your buddy when you're drunk, or having a great time out, or in a casual _"love ya"_ kind of way.. but *really* telling someone you care deeply about them and would be at a loss without them - that takes bravery, even when its not romantic)

I’d be curious to see a year from now if they return to sextember how Links POV or ideals could possibly have changed from these vulnerable conversations they had together. It was somewhat surprising to me that Rhett was the one to really open up in this series and divulge some things that no one would have expected of him. So proud of you guys. Rhett, I hope you know how important your openness is about these topics. Not saying you or anyone has to be this open, just saying that the more folk that are this open, the better for everyone. In particular, the destigmatization and acceptance of trans folk and the normalisation of attraction to trans folk is something sorely needed in our society. Your honest discussion, including your meta cognitive thinking about figuring out your sexuality is an excellent insight and I'm sure a great example to people currently trying to figure these things out about themselves. I also love that you guys are such great examples of platonic love, which is something that I think has taken a backseat in modern society or is often misconstrued, as you well know. 53:00 If you take out the context that this is about two close men, Link's statement about non-physical intimate bonds, and the ability to work through even a one-sided difference in attraction, works *_really well_* for platonic close male-female friendships. Right down to the vulnerability of admitting to your friends that you _really_ love them (It's easy to say it when you're drunk, or having a great time out, or in a casual _"love ya"_ kind of way.. but *really* telling someone you care deeply and would be at a loss without them - that takes bravery, even when its not romantic)

I think a lot of the impulse to ship y'all and other straight male creators with each other comes from the lack of that representation in larger culture. I think the whole fanfiction stuff is A) Something that happens to pretty much any internet duo/trio/put any number of people over 1 here, and B) I don't think the people who do it (aka: write the fanfics or whatever) do it because they either "suspect" you two go at it or not, or because they "wish" you did. I mean, I'm sure there's SOMEONE out there who does, there's all kinds of people in the planet, so odds are SOMEONE actually does, but I'm pretty sure 99% of the people who play around with fanfics and all that just do it as a reflection of their own personal fantasies and/or just for the fun of it. I don't think they're assuming the "actual Rhett and Link" are hiding some deep, secret desire for one another, so... I wouldn't worry about that. We're humans. If something exists, we find a way to sexualize it. For better or for worse. Y'know... Monkey brains, heh.

I loved all of this, but it was incredibly validating to hear Link say he went from being closed off about them being perceived as gay to him being open to people thinking he was not straight. I thought I noticed that evolution over the last 5-4 years I've watched the show and thought he seemed borderline homophobic in earlier seasons when it came to alluding to them being anything other than platonic friends. After listening to their episodes about their previous religion it makes so much sense. I wondered if they were aware of que*rbaiting as well. I've never felt they've played into it too much, but I wondered if they were aware of being such an often shipped fictional pairing. They're not the first duo to be perceived that way and they won't be the last, so Link coming around to understand he didn't need to outright reject it is phenomenal. Rhett understanding the difference between "telling" someone their own sexuality vs. the fantasy of fan fiction is even better. What an episode. This was so beautiful to watch, I've really grown up with you guys. I started watching in middle school, met you guys at vidcon in HS, and now I'm old enough to have my own kids. I can't explain the feeling but it's just great.

I'm amazed that they are still comfortable with the phrase "breaking the seal" ever since that fanfic lmao

I have loved when you guys do open serious conversations. This series and your deconstruction stories have been my favorite of everything you've ever produced. You are both so thoughtful and intelligent people and your takes on these topics is so insightful

That and their talk about Ben. I cried through that whole episode. It's refreshing having open conversations about awkward/sad/angering topics
