This is so true. I have defended pool players against accusations that "pool is easier than snooker" for long enough. It's time to see some actual snooker matches with pool players playing against great snooker players. I don't think there is a single video of it. At least snooker players give it a go against the pool players..

You’re all wrong. He lost his cue he’d used since he was a kid. It was a one piece cue. A very crap one that people use up and down the country in snooker halls but he’d ALWAYS used this cue man and boy and it got broken on a flight. By his own admission he had to get a new cue but nothing could replace the cue he’d lost as it was the only cue he’d ever played with. After that his game gradually fell apart. That was the main reason for his downfall.

@NikosLosBabos1
@NikosLosBabos1 4 ай бұрын
It's called a magic rack. You use these instead of a triangle as they rack the balls tight to give a good split on the break. The balls are placed on top of the rack and then it's removed after you break off. However this type of rack he was using is more commonly used in 9-ball, there are triangular magic racks which are better suited for 8-ball, but he's using the 9-ball diamond rack for some reason

Wow! Some real howlers from Stephen here. And too many of the rookie mistakes snooker players often make switching to pool like not seeing the patterns, playing unnecessary positional shots with too much travel on the white, and playing far too many unnecessary cannons. If all the balls go take them where they lie man! Strickland was also below par here but still a respectable enough result.

Hendry is just washed up. Amazing how quickly he declined - all 7 world titles by the time he was 30....nothing after. Most players now are still performing and winning at the top level in their mid 40s (Higgins/Williams/Ronnie). Think he got the yips and never recovered.
@kevmccormick1767

mrb018538 the yips and being washed up are a completely different thing even the great Ronnie went through a period in his 30s where he was unable to compete Snooker and pool are completely different games that's why not meny great snooker players compete at the top level of pool and vice versa The positional play and tactics are completely different in pool as it is in snooker a good way to describe it would be snooker is like chess and pool is like checkers
@mrb018538
@mrb018538 4 жыл бұрын
Kev McCormick No - the reason top snooker players don’t play pool is because the money is terrible. Pool players don’t often excel at snooker as the jump in skill is monumental. Only Mark Selby has been pool (English 8 ball) and snooker world champion. Players like Ronnie, Steve Davis, Jimmy White & Tony Drago all had mosconi success at times against the best in the world. You’d never get Earl Strickland beating any of them at snooker would you?
@kevmccormick1767
@kevmccormick1767 4 жыл бұрын
mrb018538 the mosconi cup is a team competition is it not so not exactly individual success plus snooker players if they focused on pool for a while then yes they would excel after time possibly but pool and snooker is a complete different game and it takes years to pick up those little things that a pro player notices in regards to tactics and strategy I know Selby played pool to a decent level but he was also playing snooker too Selby was pro snooker player at 16 but wasn't till after he played a bit of pool in 2006 that his snooker career took off maybe the fact he didn't excel at snooker was because he was still practising at pool The money at the top end of pool isn't far off what it is at snooker the gap is increasing but 10-20 year ago the prize money was probably about the same

Hendry retired from snooker in 2012 because of the 'yips'. He wouldnt even make the top 200 snooker players at the moment. The fact that he can still run Earl Strickland so close tells you just what a poor relation pool is to snooker.

@@ABikerLife "bad human" is for sure an overreach but he definitely is rude, a bit douchey, and a poor sportsman. saying that his tantrums are just part and parcel of what makes him a champion is kind of a weak excuse for bratty behavior coming from a guy who's pushing 60. there's really nothing charming or endearing about a guy this old who acts this way when he starts losing and i don't see any reason why his opponents should have to be cool with it. there's a plethora of guys who play cue sports (including his opponent here) who are as talented and decorated as he is who actually know how to conduct themselves like gentlemen. I would love to see him play someone who talks and complains as much as he does while they're losing just to see he how he likes it but I've yet to see it because every other top player just seems to understand that that's not how you conduct yourself.

Two super-champions at the end of his career; the pool player wins on a mini snooker table, with holes, sides and English cloth. Earl has probably tried these tables a few times, while hendry was certainly more trained for the career end in china. I repeat it to the pundits who like to make comparisons trying to detract from pool players: it is the ball point that counts for accuracy; narrow or wide holes do not change anything. The billiard technique consists in sending the arm straight; without this, it is not possible to play any game. Probably if the two players had exchanged their games they would have been the same champions. THERE IS NO MORE DIFFICULT GAME THAN OTHERS. It is only the passion that leads to choosing one specialty over another.

Finally somebody with some sense. The professional snooker players couldn't hold a candle to the professional pool players on a pool table, not even with many years of practice. The differences would be slight, but they would show up in orders of magnitude during a match. Same thing with a pool player going to play snooker.
