That banjo is a tone monster and Robbie knows how to get everything out of it too!! Gaylon does a fine job at the end as well!

I just bought a blue MB-11. I've been obsessed with getting an 11 for 10 yrs now. I might have to mail it to Robby for an initial setup. I pray mine sounds as good as the one in this video!!!!!!! This banjo reminds me of the Huber VRB-G Granada Truetone that was also demoed on this channel. I like the sound of this banjo better. It seems to have more attack & separation to the notes where as the Huber's notes run together a little bit.

What a privilege to see & hear a truly amazing banjo from 'the day'. Thanks for sharing it with us. I have an old Van Allen arch top but it sure don't sound like that !! Geof (UK)

Yes sir, I certainly enjoyed it and thank you very much my friend. I agree that banjos sound great with or without tone rings. Another prime example is Russ Carson's recent purchase of an all original RB 1 from Jim Mills. You can listen to it by simply looking it up here at KZbin. Thanks again for sharing some great picking and a nice banjo.

Mighty impressed by this demo of that 11 style banjo, the type of banjo Scruggs did his early recordings with. I must say that I am biased though, as I myself have a TB1 conversion of 1929 with a wonderful neck done by Prucha. Completely agree with your judgement as far as tone rings go. Seems like you get out more of the aged quality that sits in the wooden rim. Appreciate you videos. Keep on

OK tone rings aren't where it's at but we can't all have a 1930s Gibson!

You can tell it doesn't have a tone ring.
@maverickdallas10046 жыл бұрын
A big, heavy tone ring would kill the sound of this banjo. It sounds great as is! Also, it would be a pleasure to play a banjo as lightweight as this one that sounds this good!

@@maverickdallas1004 100% agreed. Why ruin it with a tone ring. It doesn't need one!!!!!!!

@@redlinemando Good for playing Melodic, and Irish/Folk.
@redlinemando3 жыл бұрын
@@Celticman197 ANY banjo will play melodic & chromatic scales. ANY banjo will play Irish & Folk music. ANY banjo will play Bluegrass music. The presence or absence of a tone ring makes NO difference..............AT ALL. Earl Scruggs proved it in 1946 on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry with Bill Monroe. That FACT pretty well closes the book on the subject!!!!!!!
