It really depends on the year. Sometimes narratives work, sometimes they don’t. Michelle Yeoh’s overdue narrative helped her beat Cate Blanchett, whearas Chadwick Bosemans last chance to get an Oscar narrative didn’t work against Anthony Hopkins. It just depends on which way the wind is blowing.

I think these boys just like the movie and are trying to push it despite all the things pointing to it not being a major awards player. I’d be happy to be wrong but them having it number one for best picture and actor and probably supporting actor just seems a little nutty.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste is 100% getting nominated. Every Mike Leigh female lead gets at least some awards attention and she has a more compelling case than anyone outside the top 3. I also think it has a great shot at best picture and director.
