JR Johnson was a car owner in 1966 Beau was a mixture of white friends and drivers. Scott was 6th in 1966 points standings 3rd in owner standings. Yes a car owner limited races with different drivers. The man that hated Wendell was Jack Smith Spartanburg SC a real person .and hated that movie because everyone in nascar knew who he was in movie.he was older retired in 1966. No one else in move represented anyone because movie company didn't wanna pay sponsors for using there contracted drivers for little money. Wendell never said what he sold his story for. But it was around $15,000. He was happy because he built the car's and helped stunt drivers learn to run a circle track and Richard to turn wheel correctly while being pulled by Camara car. He was happy with what he got. Making a movie about him? He was amazed anyone cared about a 20th place driver. Never mentioned race because he'd met many good people. He said the wood brothers gave him best advice ever he didn't take it. don't run full schedule and only run big money a ones he could win. The woods won championship win David Pearson and missed races. They were right Wendell said he was to fixed on running every race and couldn't understand they proved him wrong. Times were changing Wendell was getting old got a late start old hard headed what he'd say😂

Very good driver back in the day very nice Guy as well but Buck Baker didn't want Wendell Scott to win a race but when the scoring was looked at Nascar waited a long time to make it right
