Early Fall RUSH to prepare Off Grid Cabin for Winter

Wood stove surround preparation, beam to support the cabin, skirting around the cabin. These are things we have been working on completing for a while. There is still soffit, facia, tongue and groove, fixing the wood stove legs, and many other little things that we will continue working on to hopefully complete before winter in our off grid cabin in the woods.
Slowly but surely we are looking to turn to off-the-grid solutions for power and waste. We would like to grow as composters and gardeners. For now though, our focus is still on the cabin building process. Thank you for joining us.

The tree should be called "Princess Pine" because she will grow into a beautiful Queen Pine. The hearth is going to be gorgeous and it won't be too long until you need the wood stove, so it's smart getting that job done now. I love seeing fall colors in other areas because we don't have much in my area. It was fun seeing the kids enjoy nature and playing/working around the cabin.

We compost it. I haven't shared our compost pile in videos because it honestly isn't setup well yet. But yes, compost!

I wouldn't do solar at a temporary cabin it's not sustainable. A generator is cheaper and much easier. I've lived off the grid in Northern MN for 11 years, 7 years running a generator.

Thank you! I appreciate your continuous advice and support through comments on our videos. We haven't decided on solar. If we plan to stay for longer stints we would like to look into solar, but our generator works so well right now.

@@jodimiddendorf you also need self heated batteries unless you bury them in a root cellar. They're not supposed to be in weather below freezing 👍
