The other thing I have in my garage is a cheap toaster oven from an op shop. Handy for heating up bearings before jobs like this and also good for baking paint onto small parts.

Out of interest how hot do you get them?

@@XenonJohnD For the painting? Just under 100C. That seems to work. I should probably experiment a bit more.

I have one of those cheap presses and it's useful but needed some work. The pin on it wasn't straight so I had to cut it out, machine the ends square then re-weld it on. And the moving part was so loose in the frame it had a ton of side to side movement. I made two spacers from plastic chopping board I bolted to the sliding bit to take up the slack.

As an informal product review, I did expect it to be a bit rubbish but actually it has been just good enough to do what I needed it to do with respect to this axle rebuild which I suppose is all I could ask of it bearing in mind the low price.
