It will be interesting to see what this season brings. The ground never froze in southern WI. The moles in the yard never stopped. I hope this doesn't mean that crop diseases and parasites that would normally be reduced by cold weather don't go into a population explosion. Please stay safe, and God bless.

The last time we had a winter like this ( in SE Michigan) was Dec. 2011- March 2012. Summer 2012 was hot and dry. I kind of expect that this year. There is some water setting in some of the fields at the moment. If only we could save it for July and August!

Yeah..I'm North of yous guys about 1.5 hrs. I went out walking in the fields this morning and was thinking the same thing. I had a little more frost still hanging around yet. But almost like yours probably in a few days. Up here in Siberia it's way lucky we can get in the fields this time of year. Normally we've got 18-30 inches of snowpack and just now coming out of -30s this time of year. It's a blessing we can get in this time of year. Anyone planting Ogle oats down there? I'm up by Aurora. I saw Rock Creeks Consignment sales on for early April.
@trinitydairy8 ай бұрын
I think it was Ogle I planted last year.
@HowardFarms18 ай бұрын
@trinitydairy how did they do? I planted Deon last year. Decent straw and grain yields were at 82 bu/ acre. I've been looking at MN pearl this year. But I really like Ogle Oats. Where is a good place for seed?
@trinitydairy8 ай бұрын
I was happy with them, for how dry it was, I'm not sure what the Bu per acre was. I got those at Federated co-op in Moose Lake. But I think triple z farm supply by Pine city, might have them too. But that's probably a long haul for you.
@HowardFarms18 ай бұрын
@trinitydairy it's a drive...but maybe I'll set up a stop at moose lake on way back from Heidelbergers sale first part of April to pick up some seed. Thanks for info. What Corn variety do you plant and what's the maturity days on it? This is tough corn country. 72-78 day max. I have used sweet corn up here before for silage.

Yes, we did, thank you! The Gehl box had the floor rot out, and when the owner was running it, the whole chain came up and wrecked the back end. All the usable parts are out of it. The owner still wanted the running gear, but he gave me the box.
