Hello George! I believe that your avocado suffered from over heating, I know you didn’t want to baby it too much but you didn’t realize that the extreme heat in your zone it’s just more than what they have evolved to withstand, in California they paint them with a specific white paint and that’s the solution that works for them,don’t shoot me😮! When any of your trees fails we( your audience)get saddened 😢. Thanks for sharing your backyard journey with us! Have a blessed day!

So far I haven't lost either the Pinkerton or Lamb Hass, they just had major set backs. My Hass and Wurtz pulled through fine without tree paint, which is what I hope the others will do too, especially with the cooler and wetter spring and summer. Thanks for watching!

A lot of the subtropicals begin their lives as understory under dense canopy in lush mulch so they love heat but not so much sun

Hi George, I can confirm with 100% certainty that what you have is Bullocks Heart (Annona Reticulata) which does have some pink to the flesh but is very different to Pink Ilama (Annona Macroprophyllata). The leaves of yours are typical of Reticulata.

Pink Ilama is still very hard to get in Australia. I happen to have seedlings of Pink Ilama imported from mexico and trust me they would not survive in Melbourne. Pink Ilama from seed can take 10 years to fruit.

You're 100% right. I got an email from Daleys recently regarding their mistake. Thanks

Climate change hasn't been good to Melbourne. I hope you get some hotter years soon. Btw, I like the longer format 1hr/yard front and back. It helps to see sunny gardens when we're experiencing the shortest days of the year. Happy gardening.

I'm happy that most of the tropicals are hanging and that all the others are still thriving. I'm sure we'll be back in drought times again and praying for just a little rain lol

I have heard the volunteer figs can be males? Not sure, no fruit on them possibly. Definitely worth planting around the neighborhood for guerilla gardeners for food security in the apocalypse, or for adventurous farmers with heaps of space looking for new varieties.

Some are cuttings I took from the first volunteer discovered in the back.

I picked a fruit from a tree branch hanging over the footpath on our walk, placed the seed in a pot and voila!

Seem like you are growing most of the tropicals except the tropical green jujube. The Taiwanese/Indian/Thai green Jujube variety which does well in 9A and above when mature.

Hello, I noted you have a lot of land. I was wondering what is the reason that you plant your fruit trees in the pots instead of directly in the ground?
@RealLifeFruitopia

Many of the young tropicals can't tolerate the winter until mature enough, so I protect them in the greenhouse the first 2-3 years.

Did the volunteer fig near the cucumbers come out of seed or a cutting?
@RealLifeFruitopia
@RealLifeFruitopia Жыл бұрын
I think its from a cutting, I didnt plant it though.

Hi George, I have a question about my banana tree. The leaves on it don’t seem to come out properly, they don’t fully uncurl . I don’t know why I give it water , food and mulch .would you know why ?

If in a pot, maybe too dry. If in the ground, maybe not enough sun.
