I think that it has very little to do with people's talent, but more with the actual production and directing of The Room. Almost everyone thought the movie would never air, so they didn't really try 100%. This seems more casual and the actress seemed more comfortable.

The guy who played Chris-R said in an interview that he thought it was stress and paranoia that messed up Tommy's performance. Half the time Tommy was using cue cards and the rest is dubbed over. Plus he never seems natural. Yet in this, camcorder footage of auditions, he seems better. In 'Samurai Cop:2' he is OTT and comic but its a good OTT comic performance (it's what he was supposed to do) and some of the sketches and other things he's done are good. I'm not saying Tommy will be the nest Orson Wells but if he was cast in a drama with a good director and cast he would probably pull it off.

The "You didn't get it, did you?" line makes much more sense here. In the movie, when she asks if he got the promotion, he flat out says "Nah" but Lisa still says the line. Like yeah, he just said he didn't get it, why would you ask again? But here, he hesitates and doesn't answer, which I think is actually realistic dialogue. It then makes sense for Lisa to say "You didn't get it, did you?" But then he goes and calls Lisa "Johnny" at 1:33 and it all goes out the window and we go back to good old Tommy Wiseau.

It's funny to think of how much of the original cast was black for 2 reasons. 1: Tommy has spent a lot of time in France, it's the reason he gave himself the made up last name that he did also there are a lot of black people in France compared to other parts of Europe so I'm sure he felt very familiar working with them. It also makes sense of the reason he claims he's from New Orleans, LA a place with undeniably strong French history. 2: I can totally see black thespians being way less likely to put up with Tommy's infamous behavior compared to that of the timid and desperate to break out actors that replaced them in the form of Juliette and Greg

The acting and dialogue is much more natural here than in the movie. I get a feeling that someone who was directing for Tommy, or at least was behind the scene, played in on all the flaws and was trying to make it appear as bad as possible in the final product. Ano Nym I think it was paranoia and stress that made him act very poorly. The rehearsals are calm and relaxed, the film shoot took like six months with no air conditioning and Tommy basically lived off Red Bulls so he was not on his A-Game. He's never a good actor but at least here he isn't atrociously bad.
