On my 17 i changed the oil every 3k miles with Ams, always let the oil warm up before taking it past 3k. It never used a drop of oil until 30k miles then out of no where it started using 2 quarts every 1k miles, engine was replaced under warranty with a 19 r block.

Oil consumption comes from rings getting gummed up due to being resent back into the crankcase through the pcv. The oil gets very frothy. Eventually the rings stick and allow more and more blow by. Oil separators are a must from the factory, but smog laws don't allow it.

My 2017 gt350 burned oil from new .. I was aware of this problem when I bought the car new so I broke it in correctly and let the car warm up to 200 coolant temp and 200 oil temp b4 I drove it every drive . I also checked the oil on every drive to keep an eye on it . To my dismay I found out that before it's thousand Mile break in oil change it had already burned one quart of oil. 1qt of maintenance oil was used to top it off every drive so it never got low .. Fast forward to 10,000mi and it's obviously messed up . I took a 200 mile drive to south Carolina and I checked the oil when I left home and it was top dot full .. In the 200 mi I drove the oil was below the bottom dot on the dip stick .. So the car was burning a quart every 200mi .. I had to quickly find a Ford dealer there and get oil bc I didn't think it was necessary to keep extra oil in the trunk because I did not think it was burning that much.. I bought two quarts. I added one when I left Ford and it topped off the motor to the top dot .. After the drive home of 200 miles again I checked the oil and it is below the bottom dot .. So thankfully I knew this was so bad that Ford warranty would not give me the runaround and they would fix the problem.. They had the new engine in the shop and In only 3 days. However, there Master tech that did most of the engines swaps on vacation for 8 days and I wanted to wait for him bc I knew he had the most experience .. So the Ford service advisor told me to keep topping it off and just drive the heck out of that car. He said go ham , if it blows you are already approved for a new 2019 gen 2 motor . So in Mexico I was easy on the clutch and trans and tires but I kept that Motor at redline . I drove it like such an ape I thought for sure it was going to blow .. But it did everything I wanted and still ran fine as long as I put a qt in it every 200mi So these motors are built pretty rock solid and can take a lot of abuse and just ask for more .. After the 8 days of crazy fun I took the car in and they took one day to pull the old motor out and one day to put the new motor in so only two days which is amazing because I've read a lot of posts from people saying that it takes weeks and months for their dealerships to replace their motors.. The gen 2 is great and it no longer had that loud annoying chain slap sound every time you hit 2,000 rpm .. the clicking and tapping would only appear when it hit 2k and it would then be silent from 2.5k on .. It was terrible and embarrassing driving a new car and having people looking at me funny bc the slapping noise was so loud and the car was so new . The gen 2 fixed all that and hasn't burned any oil at all , I still check it every drive and so I have not needed to add any maintenance oil

@@masterkendroI’ve had mine for 3 years now. Doesn’t consume a drop of oil. Gen 1 2017…I think most of the engines that were going to have problems have mostly been sorted out at this time and the problems were a bit overblown at first and a lot were related to people not properly warming up the car, checking the oil, etc. I follow the groups and forums pretty close on these cars and haven’t seen anybody complaining about blown engines much anymore. Get one that has some miles on it maybe over 10 or 15k and you should be good..just take care of it and keep an eye on the oil. It’s a great and fun car!

I had a ‘16 from new. There was no consumption at all … driving hard good amount of the time. I think some were more prone to consumption than others. Having said that, engine failure wasn’t a risk I wanted to live with for the long haul so I got out of it. Def smart to take all precautions as you mentioned.

So if you get one new and maintain oil changes early the change of the consumption is lower and idk how anyone can allow their car to go 5,000+ miles oil is cheap and even my beater car gets 3,000 mile oil changes and it’s just a car I use to move the lawn mower.

My 2017 GT 350 used 1 and 1/2 quarts every 500-700 miles! I got tired of putting oil in it ! At 40,000 miles I let it go! This is the only stang out of the 8 mustangs I have owned that had me afraid of the engine blowing up! Just to name a few stangs I have owned: 94 Gt, 2003 Mach 1, 2012 Boss 302 and the mighty 04 Cobra 😊

God bless the voodoo I change mine every 3k at the dealer $350 with touch less wash. I just renewed the bumper to bumper warranty and fords nest maintenance plan that covers every maintenance related. I just use the Ford performance recommended oil. My 5 year expires in July. So I got both warranty 6 more years bumper to bumper and the maintenance plan for for 5k. Mine is a 2018 and I’m the second owner and my car had all the maintenance records doesnt burn 🔥 oil. I added the air/oil separators on both sides of my motor. Now I’m fully protected. Like him said the is just as fun short shifting. The key is checking oil often and like let all your temps get to 180degs on oil temp. Check your car under the hood while it’s running for leaks before and after your driving it hard. And carry an extra quart in your trunk. I will never sell mine period.

I have a 17 350 and im eating oil like crazy, like a quart every couple hundred miles... did the consuption teste and after a fresh oil change i went back after 1200 miles and the dipstick had below minimum oil :( ive always let it warm up fully before taking it out, it is my daily. and thankfully i bought an extended warranty but this warranty company is giving me the run around. the tech put a camera into cylinder 6 and 8, said that they were absolutely disgusting and the walls/piston head are covered in old/fresh oil and the warranty investigator said he sees no signs of mechanical failure....what.. the tech and my advisor were both confused at how he came to this conclusion and now they want a complete tear-down before approving a swap to the gen 2...

Now the 17 350 is affordable right now but I have heard to stay away from the 15-16 and the 17-18 are the next best choice but the 19 is the reliable year but they are going for 63k right now and they have very low miles like 5k but still. I assure you that if you spend 30 seconds in any GT350 group, oil consumption will be discussed. Mine consumes oil, but I've stopped caring. I have 42k on the clock, and I add a quart ever could cruises. So, an extra $12 every couple times I fill with e85. It is what it is. A small price to pay for the amount of enjoyment it brings.
