Great video! Luckily , my Gen 1 engine with now 30k miles has been flawless. I bought it new, and I am the only owner. 2 full track days (probably 12 sessions total) Oil changes every 5k miles. Just changed trans and diff fluid at 25k miles (or 5 year mark) Runs solid with no oil consumption at all

Great tip about the oil filter. I have a 2020, broke it in very carefully with the no high rev until first oil change (1500 miles), speed up and let it slow for the first 500, etc. I had noticed the high oil pressure when cold and always keep it under 3000 RPM until 190 temp / lower oil pressure. (I've been keeping it under 3000 RPM until warmed-up for all my cars since someone told me about thick / cold oil in 1982...) It's been great so far, no oil consumption.

I have been concerned with the piston slap when I first start my 2018 , the ticking bothered me but it usually stopped after warm up. The information given in the video eased my mind some and I feel better now. Very good and informative video,thank you. I have had my GT350 for 2 and a half years now and I still can't wait to get in it and drive.

As a 2017 R owner, this was vital info. And, I have been following all these guides from prior research. May I add that the 1K Ford RPM guide break in is also vital in my view.

Number 1 factor with this engine is proper breakin with multiple oil changes at lower miles as well as restraint to keep these engines lower RPMs to get good ring seat. If you abuse this engine early it will likely fail. Hard to have restraint. Most oil lost is from passenger side if you run a catch can little from driver. Easy to install.

just crossed 21k on my 2019 R. Amazing car for amazing journeys. amsoil 5w-50 only ever 3-5k miles and always warm it up and cool it down properly. mine burns a tiny amount in 500 miles. maybe 1/5th quart. Nice video.

Hey I just bought a 2020 gt350 heritage and I wanted to know what’s the oil filter number to use on it? Some people saying online it’s a 2062 motorcraft and others saying a 2087. Any advice would be appreciated

@@timschultes6467 make sure its a FL 2087. there is a new 2087-A part with a plastic core instead of metal. Make sure its a 2087 either way

My experience has been that higher RPM engines have significantly lower TBO (time between overhauls, originally an aircraft engine term). There is a lot more wear and tear in the upper RPM range so that is to be expected. The Voodoo engine is remarkable in some ways but engine life would be a concern for me. My 2023 Mustang GT 6 speed has the Coyote engine and I'm hoping for a 200k engine lifetime.
@midnight347
@midnight347 5 ай бұрын
It doesn't Rev THAT much higher than a coyote ecsp one with a manifold swap. A coyote can go 100s of thousands of miles easily if maintained even boosted. A gt350 could go 200k easily if maintained assuming it doesn't get low on oil and go boom which is what causes most failures. Simply keep a check on the oil level it isn't that difficult.
@Axeman428
@Axeman428 5 ай бұрын
You should have no problems getting more than 200,000 if properly maintained. I have owned three coyote powered mustangs and the only thing I did was put a cooling fan one one @ 90,000 miles. They are designed to run 400,000 miles. Ford did plenty of R&D to make sure.

If you have a gen1, you MUST use an oil separator if your car uses any oil. The only way these engines don't use oil, is if the rings have been changed. Low tension rings on a 12-1 compression motor, will have blow by.

Great information but piston slap isn't a normal thing. That's an engineering aspect to where they didn't want to make the tolerances super tight.

Jim Morrison from Royal Purple told me how to seat the rings on my new 2016 for the first 500 miles never used 1 drop of oil, always warmed car up, never high reved, oil change at 300 miles, 2nd at 1500, 5W50 Red-Line oil..Motorcraft 2069 filters . .NEVER HAD A PROBLEM EVER!!!

Very good video and you know your stuff. I owned a 17 GT350, worked for Ford at a dealership and was a moderator on the shelbygt350 forum. First just would like to know about the slight engine changes on the valves on the R motors for the Gen 1 motors. Everything I read about the motors there was no difference. Secondly I can confirm several engine failures from forum members do to oil consumption. My own 17 used a qt every 1400 miles but some cars were burning through a lot more than a qt every 500 miles. Also in the winter of 2018 ford amended the owners manual for all GT 350 owners about the oil consumption stating “it was within factory tolerances” if your car consumed a qt every 500 miles. This was obviously done to slow down the current engine claims but more importantly for future owners. If you were a 15, 16 or 17 car owner and complained enough, Ford would give the GT350 owners a free Premium Care warranty on their GT350; if memory served me correct it was a 5yr. 60,000 mile plan. Also Ford changed there internal pricing rating and downgraded it which meant the price for the warranty got very expensive in 2018 vs 15,16 and 2017 models

First!! LOL! The cam tensioners were also part of the GT500 issues too. Shelbyflyer has a vid about that as well. And DO NOT use the 2087-A!! That is the one also that has the plastic cage.

Too much High rpms hurt these engines
@midnight347
@midnight347 5 ай бұрын
This is nonsense. Oil consumption on some of them is what hurt them and the fact ppl dog the hell out of them and don't even keep a check on their oil level then wonder why it goes boom when they're above 8k while 1-2 qts low on oil...
@musclebone7875
@musclebone7875 5 ай бұрын
@@midnight347 but, ultimately it's because of high rpms. Any engine that is used constantly at high rpms will eventually have issues. Example " race engines, drag engines, circle track engines eventually need a rebuild.

s2000 9k rpm 5w-30 and can handle forced induction on a stock engine 600WHP no issue with 0 piston slap hot or cold. There is no acceptable amount of piston slap, Zero! Ford is crazy for even suggesting that. I would stay away from this car get a coyote and add boost it will be way faster and you will pay the same.
