Doug the type of guy to review a car 3 times. This is why Matt watson has 3 million more followers. While Doug is being completely biased towards what he reviews. (Cause 90% is directly sold through his website) Matt watson does normal reviews to the people who want to afford normal cars they can use. And he also does drag races, supercar reviews, screwing around with electric cars. *That is how you should run a car review channel*

@@moogle68 As a tall and heavyset man who owns a relatively small and low convertible, I find it pretty obvious. 😂 The difference in "difficulty" (and so, if I'm in a hurry, in speed) in which I can get in and out whether I have the top up or down would be significative in a race setting. 😂 Keep is ming that's not a tall SUV, but a very low race car. Watch any driver change on the GT40 and see how they do it - they put one hand on the center of the roof, another on the door, and basically jump in with both feet. Remember Porsche put the ignition slot on the left side of the wheel so the drivers could turn the key and put the car in first gear at the same time, so you realize every fraction of a second counts. 😉

I know they're both completely different styling, but just something about it that transports me back to when I was a kid watching that series. Doug, such a great iconic car. I have a client that bought the original prototype test rack car that was used to develop these. It is signed by Carol Shelby and all of the crew that worked on it. I had heard rumours of a non street legal Ford that this guy had bought, but know you could really tell me what it was. Then one day when I was down doing some work on his property, I asked what this mysterious car was. They took me to the detail bay that they have, and when the hydraulically controlled carriage doors opened, there it was. I couldn’t believe it. So incredible.

Hey Doug, These special doors have a historical background in relation to Le Mans: as soon as the race started, the drivers who had been standing at the starting area until then had to run across the track to their cars. Here Ford's innovative door design helped the drivers to get in faster. However, this traditional start was abolished after Ford's 4th Le Mans victory in 1969. Here‘s a little digression as to why this start no longer exists in this form today, I hope it helps: At the same time (1969), Ford driver Jacky Ickx, protested against this type of race start, in that he and his team-mate Jackie Oliver only "walked" slowly to the car and did not run, as they considered this relay start to be too dangerous. They were also to be proved right, British amateur driver John Woolfe, who was driving the only privately entered 917, had a fatal accident. In addition, debris from the car hit Amon's Ferrari, among others. Apart from the original idea of being able to get into the car more quickly, it is a beautiful reminisce of Ford's 4 victories at the time and is still something very special. It‘s a thoroughly iconic car which certainly has its "quirks and features" but that's what makes the car so lovable and desirable! PS Another benefit could be that there is more headroom for people wearing helmets (I think I saw once that the roof provides more headroom over the driver and passenger seats, but I'm not sure about this) Thank you for showing us this timeless masterpiece!

The “little flap” Doug talks about near the end is a Gurney Flap and they are very commonly placed on the end of spoilers, especially in racing. Ironically enough the Gurney Flap is named after (and invented by) racer Dan Gurney, who was one of the drivers who raced in the GT40 at various events including Le Mans.
@attnsolutions5832
@attnsolutions5832 Жыл бұрын
The "bubble" in the roof part of the door (@ 8:59) was also added only to the GT40's that Dan Gurney drove because he was HUGE for a racecar driver at 6'4", plus helmet. It's the Gurney Bubble that goes with the Gurney Flap.

It is one of my all time favorite super cars also… just so awesome. The Hennessy Venom GT used the six speed gearbox out of this car. I believe it was built by Ricardo. He didn't used to do that, but has been since a year or two. Makes me wonder that that's why he also redoes some of the same cars, because maybe he showed full keys in those videos. Aside from them being for sale on C&B.

I worked with a dude that was a part of the engineering team for the GT and he had some crazy stories. I wish I would have grabbed a beer with him for a few dedicated story times, but just the few I got when working around him were awesome still

Honestly, I miss the breakdown of each category in the Doug Score. It was interesting to see WHY Doug gave each score.
@RobMrSpaghetti

Dude, we get it. It’s been like 2 years since Doug made the change, and he’s already established several times that he’s no longer doing DougScore categories. He took his viewers’ feedbacks, and he rolled with it. Commenting the same thing on every video probably just annoys the hell out of Doug, because he’s already explained, in SEVERAL of his videos, why he stopped individual categories for the DougScore (and it makes even more sense now that Doug has a family to care for along with other priorities in life.)

It took a moment to realize you were talking about the Retro Birds that shared the platform with the LS. MN12 Cougars and Thunderbirds were built in Lorain Ohio, except for some built at Wixom during a strike as I recall. They also assembled knockdown kits in Mexico to humor Mexican trade policy I forget the reason.

Pretty Much the 5.4L v8 is 20ish% different from a 5.4 Triton from a F 150 Different camshafts same crankshaft. But put thru Additional finishing / machining / balanced more accurately = higher QC / tighter clearances an added oil passages / piston & conn rod bearing squirters, different timing belt / tensioner's , overdriven oil pump & beef'd up oiling lines / coolers / oversized electric cooling fans but In Reality all Ford EXECUTIVES were thinking .... 💰💰💰💰 performance BONUSES. And then total production COST was Chopped . BY use of subsidiary CORPORATE COUSIN'S. Aston Martin Jaguar Volvo Mazda etc. .........
