Northwest Texas, bordering New Mexico (Aka the desert where all the oil is known to be, and where there are 150+ oil rigs pumping today) has nearly 0 oil deposits in Earth2. Just want to say as a researcher that has actually worked on this; there is sort of a heat map for oil locations around the world but the resolution is terrible. Gravitational density mapping theoretically reveals the location of oil deposites and gives rough compositional data that can be coordinated with seismic information and geological samples to give approximate areas where mineral or oil deposites are likely to be found. There's big money involved in mining so there's a lot of research into the subject to make this happen. This said E2 has clearly not bothered with any of that.

That sort of info does exist, but clearly is worth a shit-ton of money, so is not available to members of the public or random shady game developers. One of the biggest problems with the flattening land thing, isn't the fact that it'll need to happen automatically if you place a building, it's what happens when you flatten one of your tiles for a building, and someone else owns the tile next to it. The tiles will both need to mesh together seamlessly so it will mean someone elses land will have to be edited in order for it to work, otherwise theres going to be huge vertical irregularities in the mesh.

I think Wolfgang Walk also brought up the problems with resource location in one of the few early Q and A’s. I work in an underground mine, so if you go by Google maps, the mine on the surface is tiny. But in reality, we span out over an area hundreds of square kilometres. So how is E2 going to translate to in game? Also regarding the whole terraforming for buildings things, I have been saying that for a while now, if they are going to let players terraform their land, then making a 1:1 geographically accurate digital earth is pointless. Because if a player wants to, they can flatten Mount Everest.

I spotted these updates today, actually, and it confused me to no end as well! They have a rendering of a planet, they have buildings for an "eco-sim" that will extract and use resources, but the buildings don't tie into the rendering of the planet, and the have a drone-flying game that just kind of exists, and all that time they are paying for plots of land so they can pay to put the buildings on it. Are those tiles just like any other tile, considered empty and just with a cooler background? Or are those middle-of-town tiles blocked from construction because there are already buildings on it? If you have a tile out in the woods, or out in the desert or wherever else in the wilderness then I can see that you can "build" things on that tile. But if I have a few tiles around the Empire State Building, and/or the Great Pyramids of Giza, will those buildings in any way affect my future gameplay? If there are buildings already on my tile will those block me from constructing things or am I bulldozing ancient historical landmarks? I've never played Satisfactory or Factorial but.. If someone posted a Kickstarter saying "We will make a scale replica of Earth, we will do our best to add natural resources to it as of year X (meaning oil fields drained after that year will still hold oil), once we feel comfortable with the Beta we will open it up for MMO where players can buy tiles with natural resources, build to extract them, then sell it on to someone who bought a tile with nothing major on it but who now have a sawmill or an iron smelter (which recruires concrete and electricity) etc etc.. Forming trade agreements, someone suddenly constructing 8 new nuclear power plants to tank the power of electricity (which can be blocked if people delivering concrete and other materials just say No), and all the other fun stuff." I can see how that could appeal to players but.. That has not been what they have sold the audience so far.. Maybe I'm just out of the loop but I cannot see how these buildings in any way relate to the tiles people bought, except more tiles = more space to build. I know I repeat myself but, why buy tiles on Manhattan without natural resources?

These buildings are big red flags on the commitment to the original vision. They originally said players could build whatever they want on each grid spot but clearly that's not true. I'm curious what people think about that.

I have spent years campaigning and researching around Fossil fuels and the biggest thing that folk don't seem to understand is that the vast majority of drills don't lead anywhere. Companies spend thousands if not millions if face opposition, to simply test land that is widely believed to have natural deposits, to only find a fault line or other geological feature previously not considered that means that in reality there's not been anything valuable there for decades if not centuries. So I don't understand how they can validate a site because unless they will actually go pay for seismic surveys, you could claim there is oil or another resource virtually anywhere if spend a bit of time searching for a coverage map that fits your need. The whole point is totally flawed. If oil companies haven't perfected perfected finding deposits then I doubt an incompetent developer team like that of Earth 2 can

Hi Callum, if Earth 2 was serious about her claims about recourses location, they could look in the country geologic database and find were are all the mines in that contry and also were posibility recourse are, thath info is free and almost all countries have it.

I remember the first year they did Child's Play, they rented one small truck and a small warehouse because they had no idea what the response would be (PA wasn't that big back then) and by day 3 they had 3 trucks and a much bigger warehouse and the first warehouse was just for storing empty boxes

This video is mastered at a really low volume. Also, the "lignitor" is presumably something that extracts or processes lignite - a kind of brown coal.

Big problem with their dev logs is they ramble about discrete assets and the general use of that discrete asset, but there's is no context to the actual game they are going into or the intended gameplay.

What would keep the devs and insiders of Earth 2 from snatching up the good plots since they knew where the valuable plots are?

The situation is even more crazy. Not only there are people that knew that a certain tile should have gold/oil but they didn't get them, but those that didn't buy their tile for this reason and there is no resource there in real-life got that resource in the game. So a part of the player base got double screwed just by sheer incompetence of the devs.

I'm just wondering if there's a correlation between "big supporter who owns a lot of tiles and promotes Earth-2" and "person who owns tiles that have magically been declared to have huge oil or gold deposits when there is no such deposit on the real Earth."

Lignator is a synonym for Lumberjack or woodcutter. I suppose that they named the building that so that they wouldn't get a bunch of people doing the Monty Python bit "The Lumberjack Song"

i remember playing warcraft ii shortly after it came out. if games of the time followed the modern format of releasing a building here, or a unit there, every few months or weeks or even years.... theres no way that pc gaming would ever have blossomed into what it is now a little under 30 years later. the game would have been unplayable if way back when i had trundled down to the pc shop, plunked down my hard earned lawn mowing money only to get home and excitedly enjoy.... the intro level where you build four farms and a couple peasents, then having to wait a month or longer to get the next building. never thought id see a 386 able to function more effectively than a modern multi-threaded processor.... that function in this case being the goal of entertaining a paying customer with an enjoyable, complete gaming experience. love your videos. thanks for doing them.

A world size mmo factorio could be really cool. I have 1000 hours in factorio, it's in my top 5 most played game of all time. What it definitely is not though is a metaverse. You're not going to have a shoe shop with real ads from ecco or addidas in the mmo factoiro clone. As for terrain that could be fixed with a simple terraforming formula that adds a cost to any terraforming. Sharper and higher drops would be exponentially more expensive since they would need reinforcement against landslides. That should discourage people from making things look too ridiculous.
