World-renowned wildlife photographer Tom Mangelsen spends his life documenting elusive and endangered animals -- at times waiting 42 days to get the shot. He's most famous for "Catch of the Day," often called "the most famous wildlife photograph in the world." He spoke with 60 Minutes' Anderson Cooper in 2018.

RIP 399 The Matriarch and Queen of the Tetons. A sad day in the animal world. Thank you to Tom and all the others who have spent so much of their time and energy telling the story of these bears. 🐻❤

I was lucky to be there the day 60 Minutes filmed Tom in the snowy field in Grand Teton. I've also stood next to him in Yellowstone filming a mother Grizzly with her new cubs near Old Faithful. He does have remarkable patience, something I've tried to learn from him.

I went to Teton & Yellowstone NP for the first time in 2019 and I've never been the same! My sister and I visited his gallery in Jackson, WY and we are huge fans of Tom's work and have purchased many of his portraits, even 399. His photographs are stunningly beautiful. He has given me a whole new perspective on wildlife and the preservation of these magnificent species that are endangered. You will only advocate and protect what you learn and love. Thank you, Anderson, for this great story.

I’ve been in awe of Tom’s work and Jane as well. Two of the most amazing people. I saw a documentary some years ago. It is called ‘winged migration’ - I highly recommend it; stunning. The discussion on the migration of the cranes made me think of it.

Many years ago I spent a week I’m Mountain View Wyomong with a good friend,I wax able to dip my toe in the Snake River that trickeked in his back yard. One if the most unforgettable experiences was visiting the home of one of his good friends, she had dozens of arrwowheads she had collected on her hikes and two whole petrified turtles,it was an experience I will never forget .

Anderson Cooper: thank you so much for this outstanding segment of a superb photographer capturing the beauty of our wilderness and wild life. It is through such magnificent legacy that such places and wildlife will survive and future generations will recognize how narrow our present vision has been - in not protecting the gems of our planet. Thank goodness for wonderful human beings like Mangelsen and Woodall.

@11:13 "there are people here who have said that they can't wait for a season to open so they can shoot 399 because that would be the biggest prize, the biggest trophy" At times mankind's arrogance is appalling and is a type of ignorance on a whole different level.

Thank You for this report. It would be a horrible tragedy if 399 was to die in the fashion you mentioned. But that is what we, vicious human killers think about and do. Slaughter for sport. Shame on them. Indigenous peoples rely on wildlife for food. The sport Killers have no such excuse. They should be banned from such destructive behavior, and if need be locked up and prey on each other.
