The nice thing about the idea that we're so insignificant in this universe, and that there are powers far greater and more intelligent than us, raises the question of: why haven't we been destroyed yet? If these other things are so intelligent, they can witness the destruction we're committing on each other right now. It's nothing new. If they can witness that destruction, they can witness all the good people do as well. If we're being kept under control, or monitored, or protected by a far-advanced civilization, I'd count us pretty lucky honestly. I find that comforting. We've proven time and time again that there's no need to destroy us, which is wild considering all the negative things humanity are doing.
@Bruced825 ай бұрын
Our universe is relatively young, the distances are absurd, and there might be no incentive to contact or visit us. There are also plenty of voids in space, that would be uninteresting to traverse, to get to us.
@krumpits5 ай бұрын
ill never understand why the conspiracy about aliens is that they MUST have wildly better tech and space travel capabilities than us, when its probably more likely that theyre struggling just as much as we are lol
@violetWinter545 ай бұрын
because on the timescale of our universe, they could have developed millions or even billions of years ago and thus be that many years ahead of us. (and they'd probably need to be at least tens of thousands of years ahead of us just to be able to travel between star systems)
@brynley5 ай бұрын
I have thought the same but the Remembrance of Earth's Past book series made the time scale make sense to me. I think the idea is that it would take SO long for inter-galactic/stellar travel thst technology would have naturally progressed far beyond the point of societal launch. Assuming FTL is off the cards (but if it's on the cards then you assume their tech has advanced otherwise)

To a degree. Our minds are constantly monitoring everything going on around us at all times and basically filters what's immediately relevant to grab our attention while filing away all of the other junk back in the recesses for later processing (usually but not always while we're sleeping--hence dreams). Sometimes something happens that our minds can't immediately make sense of but SEEMS urgent and so it's thrust into the foreground of our thoughts and we get shit like "ghosts" or "UFOs" or "psychics" or whatever. "It's just your mind playing tricks on you" isn't just an expression. It happens routinely.
@Hawk_of_Battle5 ай бұрын
I've literally experienced a bunch of people being told a made up ghost story (they didn't know it was made up, of course), then sent out into the woods, then asked minutes later if they saw anything out there, and about half of them claimed they saw ghostly figures in the form of WWII soldiers, glowing orbs, spectral dogs, heard whispering, etc, all kinds of bullshit, only to then be told, "nah guys, we made it all up, there's nothing out there, just a random patch of deadland that's not been occupied or had anything important happen on it basically ever." Most of them were STILL adamant they saw something. People make shit up and imagine things that simply aren't there and don't want to lose face even when you tell them you were bullshitting them. People are real dumb like that.

No offense to Smith - but in this case - he really just comes across as some sort of faux-intellectual. It's the trap that a lot of conspiracies rely on - basically that they know something that the plebs don't. That's the main reason people fall for them. They like the feeling it gives them that they have this "forbidden/secret" knowledge.
