Maurice White started at Chess Records in 1962 as a studio musician (drummer) and played with some of the best. Etta James, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, The Dells, Sonny Stitt and many more. Was also part of the Ramsey Lewis Trio. It was Sly and the Family Stone who gets credit for that particular genre of music and putting it on the scene. KC is good, but not on EWF level. Maybe the Ohio Players. Saw KC band when they first started playing under the name "The Ocean Liners". They played in all the local clubs here in So fla back in the day.
