Honestly Toph and Kyoshi are simply built different, it’s hard to compare the two. I think the best choice is to put them in the same tier

Not to mention that with the little we have of Kyoshi, much of what we see her do she also tapped into the Avatar state in order to do it, some parts of her skill set are hard to distinguish as HER skills, or as Avatar skills. For example, Aang can also lava bend, when but only using the Avatar state, so we don't consider Aang to be a lava bender, even though he can do it. At the same time, other Avatars were not Energy Benders, making this a uniquely Aang skill that Korra does not naturally posses on her own without using Avatar powers. I mean, how do we could skills like that, right? But regardless, Kyoshi is like Naruto. Even without Kurama, he still has massive levels of power compared to the other Kage. Kyoshi is a massively powerful earth bender in her own right, regardless of Avatar state. I still think Toph is better, but I can easily agree that they are in the same tier of power, as well as Bumi, imo.

Toph is the most talented bender. By the age of 12, she already become one of the strongest earhbender while maintaining her 'helpless' persona. Only Bumi which at the time already hundreds years old can match her, while a bunch of most elite earhbender 'Dai Li' can't do nothing to her. First time she comes in contact with the sand, she kind of hopeless, three months later, she already mastered sandbending, she can even create miniature city with such a details with ease. Trapped in metal cage, that make others earthbender useless, invented metal bending instead. If bending didn't constraint by 'genetics', she probably become a better avatar than the avatar themselves.

Kuvira had precision determination and pure skill over each of Toph daughters she would defeat anyone in Team Avatar of Korra except Korra she IMO would win vs Zahear also the 3 chieftains of watter tribes all where weaker Old Zuko is no match Katara might be able to take her down but I dont see her doing it unless it is full Moon. I would still put Aang at Rock Solid at the very least. He learned to master an element that was very much his opposite, and he still displayed an incredible level of power when utilizing it. Very Talented doesn't seem to do enough justice to how strong his earthbending was. Not to mention, he's also the first person (possibly) to understand and learn the art of seeing with earthbending from Toph, and he used that very same technique to bring down Ozai at the very end.

Lava bending is so underrated. Everyone was powerless against Ghazan before Bolin learned to do it. And it wasn't trully utilized as it is literally overpowered. Single handedly destroy the Northern Air Temple and the wall of Ba Sing Se with minimal effort. Toph deserves S tier recognition. When you pioneer a new form of bending as a child, teach two Avatars, teach a metal bending generation, and turn a disability into a strength. Those are untouchable achievements. Kuvira makes metal bending look easy. She bested both daughters of an S tier earthbender and can go toe to toe with an Avatar. Her level of concentration and control of metal alone put her in the master category for me.

The only thing that holds him back from using earth to it fullest and even fire too is his ideology. As an air nomad raised in pacifism that why his go with is air and water. Earth and fire are attack elements, but it comes to skill aang, toph, kyoshi and bumi should all be on the same level.

Toph Beifong is special. she deserved to be in the top tier even though she wasn't an avatar. -Toph learn her earth bend ability not from school or any human, but direcly from the original source, The Badgermole. she was just a little girl back then. -Toph can "see" using his bending ability from imitating The Badgermole that literally blind same as Toph. -Toph can tell someone is telling the truth or lying as there are the physical reactions in the body that she can senses through vibrations, thanks to her bending ability. -Toph is the one who invented metal bending. -Toph has won the several tournaments which parcipated by various earth bender fighters even though she just a little girl.

kyoshi might be the most powerfull, she was the avatar, so she had milenia of experience, she was also born an earthbender making her expecially gifted in the discipline when compared to other avatars. however, i would say that toph is still better, she created metalbending and tremorsense, wish she used as an extention of her senses constantly to compensate for her lack of sight, she trained 2 avatars and was still a powerhouse in her later years, all this by beeing basically self-taught would the her of the badger-moles.

I’m surprised Roku isn’t on this list. Based on the fact he can tunnel, traverse mountains in seconds and how he was able to seamlessly switch between earth and air (two opposite elements) during his last stand, I’d put him at High Rock Solid, or Low Boss Level. Definitely above Korra, maybe above Bolin, but definitely before the Beifongs.

I don't think moving the island counts because she was using avatar powers, as far as I know from the show that allows the avatar to become like combination of all other avatars so techinaclly whatever you do with that power you are not doing it alone. But glass part I'm really impressed

I think toph deserves the top spot because kyoshi used the avatar state when she moved the peninsula And she only used her earthbending to SPLIT the peninsula but she used her airbending to move it, not to mention kyoshi was over 100 years old at that point. Toph was only 12 years old and blind when she invented metalbending

1. In a battle of only earth bending Toph doesn't lose to Kyoshi. 2. Toph invented and mastered metalbending 3. I believe she can lava bend but hates heat and fire cuz it burnt her feet and made her truly blind for a time but probably capable of it anyway 4. she can manipulate anything if enough earth/metal is in it (muddy water and sludge) 5. From her home in bush she can observe everything happening in the city hundreds of miles away. Toph has homogenous/symbiotic existence with earth. No other earth bender has this relationship. I am yet to see Toph even be harmed by anything that has earth in it. She IS earth.

Why Toph should be the top tier: -Fought older, muscular earthbenders at 12 -Taught 2 avatars earthbending, one of which she taught at 12 -Held up a literal ancient library with hundreds of centuries worth of knowledge from sinking while being attacked *and* couldn’t see anything cuz of the sand -Invented metalbending while being kidnapped, then taught said bending to a whole new generation of benders -Fought w/ Avatar Aang in the 100 year war -Helped stop an entire fleet of airships (In the comics) -Helped stop an army of fire nation soldiers -Held up the roof of a mine in her father’s factory -Stopped a bunch of benders that wanted to destroy non-benders -Did all of the above while being blind Also I haven’t even seen LoK so there’s probably so much more

Bumi and Toph in the same weight class make sense. Toph has shown better skills and able to hold buildings but Bumi and Kyoshi are shown moving mountains and slinging buildings like pebbles.

Yeah,Kyoshi's earthbending skills are awesome,but to be fair,you have to mention,she was in the avatar state while she created Kyoshi Island,so she did it using all the previous avatars earthbending skills combined.Toph isn't just the inventor of metalbending,a techique that generations of earthbenders said to be impossible for 10 000 years,but she also singlehandidly held up Wan Shi Tong's library from sinking and fought sandbenders at the same time,while she couldn't "see" because of the sand,and she was at the age of 12 at this time.Oh,and Bumi,the man didn't just move entire buildings while he singlehandidly took his city back from the fire nation army,he literally bended earth with his face to break out of his prison,and he did the whole thing in like 8 minutes,because that was the amount of time the solar eclipse gave him until firebenders get their powers back,and he was a 112 years old man.If we really just compare their skills at earthbending,and don't count the advantage the avatar state gave Kyoshi,these two are at least on the same level as her.

I love Bumi, but to put him and Toph at the same place considering her influence on Earthbending is just offensive. Even if she is not as strong as Kiyoshi (and if we're talking earthbending alone, I don't know if Kiyoshi is a better earthbender, just stronger, if that makes sense), she is literally above two of the strongest Avatars ever in this element. She deserves Avatar level skills.

Honestly, I think in metalbending, Kuvira would beat anyone, and in earthbending, she might not only lose to Bumi, but probably be significantly weaker than most benders here. In fact, it's hard to tell, because they all grew up in different times. In Korra's time, where people live in big cities, it's not really possible to show grand feats of moving mountains and what not. We never see Kuvira do any mindblowing earthbending. However, when it comes to metalbending, no one is her equal there.

I couldn't agree more with kyoshi, love the books and the info you got from the books. In one part, almost with out any proper training she lift an entire boulder of 100 meters of diameter from the seafloor 200 meters away from her position while being in an iceberg. But she trusted" She didn't went berserk nor was any mention of glowing eyes or extra power or rush. It could be free for interpretation of the reader but is more likely that it wasn't the avatar state. It's bortherline impossible to control the avatar state the first time and even with out ANY TRAINING NOR GUIDANCE. Edit: grammar
