Earthberry Pastels, Eco Friendly, High Quality Artist Pastels
First of all I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I would also like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year, I wish and hope that 2025 will bring love, happiness, success and above all, the very best of health to you all. As each year goes on, I don't know if it is just me, but all I see is hate and division everywhere, so many people out to hurt others no matter the damage and it is sad. I feel totally blessed to have this community, you guys who stop by The Art Gear Guide, have followed the channel from the beginning, have become my friend and even part of my family, you are all the people I turn to when avoiding the level of hate in the world. Art is my escape as is the art community and I just can't thank you all enough for embracing me and accepting me as part of the community all those years ago.
In this review we take a look at the amazing Earthberry Pastels, a pastel of such high quality and a family run company with ethics that is aligned with so many artists I know and talk to.
For this review Earthberry have allowed all viewers of The Art Gear Guide to use a PROMO CODE when you buy a set from the Earthberry website, the promo code will provide you with a 10% discount and all you have to do is add the promo code H A R R Y 1 0 A R T when you go to pay for your item. As always guys, thank you so much for your support I can’t tell you how much it means to me. You can of course support the channel by simply watching my videos to the end, reading the viewing the content on The Art Gear Guide and leaving comments along with likes, all for free, you have nothing at all to give and in return I am constantly giving away amazing art sets, free giveaways open to everyone no matter where you live in the world, I pay for postage.
If you would like to support the channel financially, of which all money goes back into buying art supplies to review and improving the production value etc, you can subscribe to my Patreon Channel. For as little as $2 a month you get access to many tutorials, colored pencils, marker, watercolor, pastel, mixed media etc. You can of course subscribe more than $2 a month, as much as $15 per month, but that is up to each individual and I set it at $2 because I wouldn’t everyone to gain access. Ive not added a tutorial in the past few months but I am working on a fantastic Absolute Beginners Guide to colored pencil artists and this has been so widely requested.
Finally, if you would like to follow my day to day personal life and get to know me and my family a bit better, you can click the links below and follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, I also have a Threads and TikTok which if you are on those platforms I’d love to see you over there. I am always adding work in progress images of the art projects I’m working on, photos and video clips of my Siberian Husky Koda and occasionally my family.

I have a similar experience with my husband for the last nine months we’ve been caring for my mother-in-law. She’s been in hospice and she only passed away a few days ago so I know how you can put your life on hold when you’re taking care of someone like that, you have my deepest sympathy and prayers.

These look amazing! I’ll be saving my pennies to get a set soon. My parents are in their 80s and Mom has been unable to care for herself - due to dementia - for about 4.5 years. This summer Dad started showing signs of dementia & a bad UTI accelerated that dramatically. Over the course of 3 months they went from living independently to being in an assisted living apartment with 24/7 care on top of that. Thankfully 2 of the 3 of us (children) live within a couple of miles of them. It is a difficult ride no matter how prepared you are, how much money you have to support the process, or how many people you have helping. Breathe deeply and remember that you can’t help with anyone else if you don’t take care of yourself first. And keep it as simple as possible when you can.

Hullo Harry, I have had my troubles with still life pastel paintings too! I do not know what it is, but sometimes they just are some of the most difficult type of images to create! I have watched a couple of painting videos with these Earthberry pastels and they are a beautiful pastel! I splurged on a set of Schmincke Sticks and ONLY because they were on an open box closeout price! Most of the best sticks are quite expensive. Terry Ludwig has some of the best quality sticks that are famed and envied by most of the Artist I know! I got one in a sample set from Dakota Pastels and they are so nice to work with! I almost purchased a small set with some birthday cash, but I do not want to have sticks that I would be afraid/reluctant to use! I believe you did a fine job representing these quality pastels. I know some will go take advantage of your coupon and this very kind offer from this company. Please take care and best wishes to you and your family too!

Wow! How interesting and beautiful 🥰. I have seen many works with material like this on the internet and i think it has its charm ✨ ... I continue practicing with some oil pastels and i hope to improve technique because sometimes it seems to be cumbersome but it's more technical 😄👍. Fantastic demo and review! Thank you 🙌✨

I have done that it’s really hard, your wife is very lucky to have you. When you are caring for and parenting your parents it can be very hard and lonely, because basically your parents are gone while still being right in front of you.❤

Hi Harry, I love your art. I understand about dementia. I care for my younger sister who battles this and serious mental health conditions. I too hope that 2025 is better than the last few. Take care. Liz ❤

Dementia is hard on the family and the person going through this. My sympathies. Lovely review of these pastels. I have been tempted to try pastel blocks but I told myself I need to use my pan pastels and pencils more first. But if I do decide to try blocks I will definitely look at these.

wow ... your artworks with this colorful earthberry-pastels-stuff are looking amazing ... few weeks ago I was try for the first time in my life a not very expensive colorful set of oil-pastels from a discounter what was surprising me very much ... because these oil pastels are better that I was thinking ... faraway from the cheap less pigmented waxy crayon´s stuff for kids ... I was found a new medium for me and I have a lot of fun with it ... your dry earthberry-pastels are a bit different from, but also very colorful and very good. I like the smuging for smoothe transitions from one color to another ... your artworks are stunning 😃... I´m thinking you will also have a lot of fun with this set like me with my oil-pastels.

Thanks for you wonderful reviews. These pastels look nice but... they are very pricey. They cost even more than pastels from Schmincke or Sennelier.

I was excited to see this review, Harry. Unfortunately, Earthberry don't ship to Australia yet but are hopeful to do so soon. I look forward to that day as I will definitely buy from them. Dealing with dementia is difficult - I hope you, your wife and the extended family get all the support you each need; and I wish you and your family love, light, laughter hope and peace for the coming year. Thank you so much for everything you do for the art and colouring communities.

Thank you for your review, Harry. I hear that you had a nice and Happy Christmas. I did too. I wish you a very happy New Year too. Sorry to hear about your family members that are sick. I know that is a kind of disease very daunting for the family not to mention for the patients themselves. I wish you all the best. Thank you again. Sending love from Italy, Rita.

Are the pastels a little harder, like Rembrandt? Or are they really soft like the Terry ludwigs?

Happy new year. Beautiful but at this price.Whenever someone shows something with organic dyes, I wonder about light resistance and other things that are required from high-quality dyes.

All of that information is available in the written review which I have linked below. Of the 30 colours in this set, I think 24 are rated 3 Star their highest Lightfast rating and the remaining 6 are 2 Star. Same lightfast structure as Faber Castell and some Caran D’Ache products, a 3 star rating system, 3 the highest and 1 the lowest. So on that basis, depending on your preference as an artist, all 30 colours can be used for a commission or 26. I know there are a lot of artists that will only use the highest rating and a lot who will use the highest and next lowest. I agree with you on cost, but unfortunately for us artists, if you want the highest lightfast ratings on the market, you are going to have to pay for them. The way manufacturers look at it is, for the price they sell highly lightfast products at, the artist that will only use the highest LF products can claw that cost back selling one painting. Of course you and I and many others know that isn’t always the case because some artists just like to use highly LF materials and do nothing with the artwork, I am one such artist. But this is why I always advise artists, if you are not ready to sell original artwork, don’t use the highest lightfast products, practice with student quality materials which are still of a high quality. Or, alternatively, if you are not ready to sell original artwork but would like to make a bit of money in order to buy the high end products, create your artwork with student quality materials and then sell prints, using an artist quality Printer.
