Mussels everywhere! The abundance of delicious food is insane in New Zealand. This was my first time gathering and cooking mussels...and I got a bit of a surprise at the end :0 cheers, Matty P

Hey Matty, NZ local here.. next time you’re over this way, make sure you try the green lipped mussels. They’re just as tasty, but a lot bigger! Most of our mussels are accompanied by the pea crabs, just take them out! They’re harmless 😊 (I’ve even accidentally eaten a few on occasion lol) mussels are also delicious cooked on the bbq, and then filled with garlic butter once they start to open! I enjoyed the video too

Pro tip for mussels: 2 pounds of washed fresh mussels 1/2 pound of butter 1/2 head of garlic 3 handfuls of fresh parsley, coursely cut 2 big onions, coursely cut Bottle of white wine Melt butter in skillet, glaze onions, add garlic, add mussels, herbs on top, good splash of wine, cover, stir periodically until all shells open. Enjoy! Serve with some crunchy crusted white bread for dipping in the sauce.

Hello from Malaysia! Love your Earthly Eats ep!!! Thanks for doing these vids. Learnt a lot from the tips, do and don't. 👍 btw, mee goreng is actually meant to be dry/fried type noodle. Mee=noodle & goreng=fry. So the powder is meant for dry stir instead of broth. Drains the noodle out after u boiled it, then mix it with the powder and u're done. Good try any way! Hope to see more of your vids in NZ!

Hey mate if you go up north, crawl into a place called maketu. There are some greenlip mussels that grow there that are bigger than your hands. Taste great too. You will need to swim down 2 or 3 meters for them, but if you can't do that then newdicks beach there has some smaller green lips that are out of the water at low tide.

Try eating raw mussels with a lil bit of vinegar and lemon with a sprinkle of salt. Very juicy .
@t-rexngatokorua87333 жыл бұрын
I like mine freshly shelled raw, 2 in a slice of bread and that's it. If they've been in the fridge for a couple days, I'd add a fine slice of raw onion and a dot of oyster sauce per mussel. Or just lemon. Whatever is around lol but raw definitely beats cooking them imo. Takes all the unique taste away by cooking it.
@TonyRule3 жыл бұрын
Funny. Come all the way to NZ and eat the same blue ones you can easily get in North America, not the exclusive-to-NZ green lipped variety.
