Comparison video of the Avalanche Run V1 and the new Avalanche Run V2
Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.com/avalanche-run/
There’s no hiding it, I’m a die-hard fan of the EarthQuaker Devices Avalanche Run. It’s probably the pedal that I use the most since it just delivers flawless atmospheric ambience straight out of the box. So when EarthQuaker Devices announced an updated version of this ambient masterpiece, I of course had to check it out immediately. After the announcement, I noticed that a lot of people online had a hard time figuring out what sets the V2 apart from the V1, hence I thought I’d make a quick VERSUS video to showcase both the visual and sonic differences.
It would mean the world to us if you followed our social channels:

This is the most beautiful ambient guitar sound I ever heard!!! Your demo and your playing is amazing!! I also like the dog at the end!! :-) I like more V2 for the amazing stereo sound!... Now, all I have to do is waiting to find the money to buy this!... I have also checked Iconoclast but it's too expensive for me, so I'm thinking of buying 2 identical cheap guitar amps to use it in a stereo setup!! Thanks for your amazing demo!! Keep on!!... :-)

Does the reverb/delay stay on in sound on sound mode? I have been trying to figure it out and the pedal is only on when I'm holding the switch then it shuts off again while I play over the loops.
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 5 жыл бұрын
No, the reverb/delay isn't on in bypass mode when using sound on sound. It only engages when you turn on the pedal to layer loops. The reason why you can hear some reverb in this piece, when I'm not layering loops, is because I have the AR V1 on after the V2, and it adds some slight ambience. You can do the same if you have an extra reverb pedal ☺👍

Great video as always! So I notice that you say the V2 is "true stereo" but the V1 is "dual mono". Beautiful ! Just a question : What happens at 4:55, the momentary long reverse delays loops, is only possible on v2, allowed by the flexi-switch ? (i'm pretty sure of the answer, but just want to be sure, coz a good deal on a v1 is just up there!)
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! You can still do the looping thing on the V1. You just can't jump in and out of parts as smoothly since it doesn't have the momentary switch. But you can still do it by clicking every time on the latch switch ☺

@@louisservet7931 To be fair, the grabbed 'moments' in this clip were pretty long, easily done with normal switching; I use my V1 like this all the time :) But, I would love to get my hands on a V2 to try and get some really fragmented glitchy flexi-switching grabs.. Great demo!

@biomechnixon3220

rahzark The V1 isn't real stereo, it's dual mono. It can pass a stereo signal, but the effect was always applied identically with no stereo spread, so it only has a different stereo image on each output if you are passing a true stereo signal.

The whole v2 in stereo was probably the greatest sound ive ever heard!! Although im currently not educated enough on "stereo" and how to achieve that sound. Do i actually need two amps to get that sound? Or how does that iconclast box work? What was your chain/path? Looks like nothing was coming out of iconoclast
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 6 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Happy you liked that sound. It does indeed sound incredible in stereo ☺ And yeah, to play in stereo you need two amps, or something that simulates two amps, such as the Iconoclast. The Iconoclast is a stereo cabinet simulator in a box. My signal path for the video was Guitar -> Le Clean preamp -> Avalanche Run -> Iconoclast. The Avalanche Run is going stereo into the Iconoclast, and the Iconoclast is going stereo out to my Recorder. Hope this helps ☺

@@thepedalzone woah, the Iconoclast is complete news to me, but I've been wondering how to best work with stereo pedals as they get introduced into my quiver. Are there other pedals or boxes like it that help to achieve this?

Hi, thank you very much for this comparison video. I would like to know if it is possible to bypass the delay and only use the reverb?
@thepedalzone

My pleasure! Yes, you can just turn the delay mix down completely, and then you only have Reverb. You can also do it the other way around if you only want Delay 🤘

Hi, I have the V1 for a year now, and I have a few questions. First is the dry signal is stereo in the new version? the the v1 only becomes stereo then you turn it on, witch is very annoying. also is the expresion switch the same? on my other pedals when expression mode is engaged the knob lets me limit the expression input - and in the V1 it dose not... did they change that by any chance?

Can you do the sound on sound looping with the V1 like you showed with the V2?

Yes, the V1 can do sound on sound. The momentary switches in the V2 just make sound on sound mode easier to use as you can quickly jump in and out of it 😊

Do you recommend putting this towards the end, mid, or early in your pedal chain? Seems like it may be similar to the Afterneath in that it may play nicely with other later effects but wanted to get your take before messing too much with my pedal boards.
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, there's no hard and fast rules when it comes to that. Sure, most people place delay/reverb at the end of their chain, but you can gain so many different textures from messing with the pedal order. I myself have personally used the Avalanche Run either last or before another delay and reverb pedal, so I could get both classic delay into reverb textures, but also reverb into delay textures. I totally recommend you mess as much as possible with your pedalboard 😊👍
